    Western Australia Camino group meeting

I was considering walking the Camino several years ago, then my marriage fell apart & it got put onto the back burner. I'm now again looking at the possibility. I'm just wondering if any Perth people can recommend which local stores might carry the type of light weight pack that would be...

    litter on the camino

Just a couple of questions on the litter issue. I'm an Aussie, and we have public education campaigns against littering e.g. Keep Australia Beautiful. I think it has worked well over the years, though there are still the louts & losers who don't see a problem with rubbishing their country. My...

Ultralight Day Pack for after walking

New Zealand flag also differs in that the stars have red interiors. The onya website tells us that they are not only Australian, but Western Australian, so even better !!! I bought an "onyaback" at Salamanca Markets in Hobart, with my Camino next Sept in mind, but now I see that they are from my...

Another camino book out of Australia

I have not done my Camino (yet- aiming for Sept 09) but I am a reader by nature ( work in a library), and so I enjoy reading Camino travel books, as well as other travel/adventure descriptions. I have just bought Camino Footsteps today while at the State Library of Western Australian for work...

Earlybird fares - good value ??

Hi, we are from Perth, Western Australia and are planning for the Camino Frances starting about September 12, 2009. Earlybird fares to Europe are out now. Does anyone have experience of whether they are really good value, should we jump in now?? Any past experience out there for me? Cheers, Lisa.

    Class of 2009

Well, I guess it is really a balancing act of what we would like. This would be our first Camino, and first time in a non - English speaking country. I don't really want to be racing to get a bed every night, but that would be the only reason to avoid crowds. I guess when I say crowds, I mean...

    Class of 2009

My husband and I are hoping to travel from Western Australia to walk the Camino Frances next year. Our original plan was to start in April, but hubbie has gone to work in Antarctica until March. So we are now leaning towards starting in early/mid September as we would prefer to avoid the larger...

    Tent - uk readers

I would suggest whoever does the 'crap' should pick up that crap!! In Australia we have the Tread Lightly motto for being out in the bush - take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints. I always try to leave a campsite cleaner than when I arrived.

Getting to the Camino from Australia

Any pilgrims from Down Under like to share how they got to SJPP or thereabouts to start with. Specifically I am leaving from Perth, WA. Cheap airfares all seem to be via Amsterdam, Finland etc!! Any tricks for a more efficient & economic trip? Cheers.

Back in Ontario. wonderful camino - May 2 to June 4.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply Gerry. I really hope we can do the Camino next year. We are not at all religious, but something about it really appeals. The age of it all perhaps - coming from Australia, we get pretty impressed by " old stuff". Cheers, Lisa.

Back in Ontario. wonderful camino - May 2 to June 4.

Sounds like a great walk. My husband & I re really hoping to do the Camino next April/May. Can I ask what your budget was allowing for the pensions etc? We are likely to be on a pretty tight budget & would be interested to know approx. costs if refuges are full or whatever & we need to use...

    light sleeper

Another light sleeper chiming in here - soft foam type earplugs work well for me - I use them all the time & never travel without them. They do take a bit of getting used to for most people I think, and you can use them several times. If you are open to it, you may find taking sleeping pills of...

    Busy Camino

My husband & I are planning to walk the Camino next year, we have booked leave from mid April till end of May. We have to plan well in advance to get leave booked in. I was kind of hoping to avoid the craziest, busiest time, but it sounds like that might be just what we have picked. Are albergue...

    Raincoat-Poncho

I am quite interested in these Altus ponchos. Can anyone describe the sizing for me? I am a skinny 5'8" female, my husband is 6'1" , also pretty lean. Can seem to see on the website how the sizes go. Cheers.

    Riding the milky way

Has anyone read Riding the Milky Way by Babette Gillard? I have read Spanish Steps and Horseshoes & Holy Water And enjoyed them both. Hoping to walk the Camino Frances next year.
