I walked Leon-Santiago last year and like many others I would recommend you explore Leon a little. It is a lovely place and the cathedral is stunning (and the FroYo close to the cathedral is a-okay ;-))
I stayed the night in Leon and was on my way the next day. I know a common advise is to...
Thank you for the links. I have booked a room at Citadelle 21 that I think I will stick with even though it is pricier than anticipated.
Oh well, you snooze you lose as they say and now I am just happy that I have a place where I can snooze. :-)
English is not my first language either so I am well aware of the fact that barriers occur. However, writing with capital letters and using lots of exclamations marks has the same meaning regardless of language and I see absolutely no point in communicating that way.
It is a matter of definition of course but the owners don't seen fine. Here's their response:
Hi Anita
Thank you for your demand but we cannot accept late arrivals. The hostel closes for everybody at 10 PM; IT IS WRITTEN EVERYWHERE !!!!!!!!
The stage of the following day is long and difficult...
Hello my fellow pilgrims. :-)
I will be arriving in Biarritz around 19.00 august 15. A Friday. During holiday peak. With no reservation in neither Bayonne nor Saint Jean Pied de Porte. Needless to say all the cheap places in Bayonne have no vacancies on that specific day.
My question is as...
I walked from Leon to Santiago last august and I only brought along a silk liner which I came to regret ad few times since I was very cold during three nights. Temperatures vary a lot due to variation in altitude but also in isolation. I especially found old cosy stone albergues to be very cold...
Speaking of which I saw A LOT of people with straight stiff legs going downhill last year when I walked Leon-Santiago. No wonder a lot of knees get injured on the Camino. Before leaving I had focused on getting strong legs by lifting weights and I think that helped me a lot. I didn't experience...
I
I have no intentions to stay in Biarritz. Either Bayonne or SJPdP. I would say that I prefer going to SJPdP the first day but am unsure if that is possible due to my late arrival in France.
I think I prefer solution C but on the other hand I would really like to do SJPdP-Roncesvalles in one...
Thanks mspath. If I am to stay in Bayonne that is the hotel I have my eyes on. Would you stay in Bayonne the first night? If so why?
Maybe I should add that I will be arriving to Biarritz on a direct flight from Copenhagen so I won't be struggling with jetlag upon arrival. ;-)
Thank you for your reply. :-)
Biarritz seems like a lovely place but since I am arriving late and leaving early I am guessing it won't be worth the extra money staying there?
Why do you suggest Biarritz instead of Bayonne?
My return to the Camino is getting closer! Yay. :)
I will be arriving in Biarritz 18.55 august 15 and I am now contemplating what to do in terms of accommodation.
Do I:
A)Stay the night in Bayonne. Catch the early train the following morning to SJPdP walk around town, spent the night in a...
Thank you so very much for your replies!
I walked Leon-Santiago in August and plan to return in August again so I know what kind of heat to expect. I also know that my stamina is okay and I enjoy walking long stretches. I guess the one thing I am wondering about is how hilly the terrain will...
Hi!
I am planning my return to the Camino and I need help with estimating how long it will take me to walk from SJPdP to Burgos? I have planned to make a stop in Orisson meaning it will take me an additional day getting to Roncesvalles.
I walked Leon-Santiago (via Samos) in August in 12 days...
