    Santiago to Madrid

Not exactly the answer you're looking for, but once I finished my camino a few days early. I took the bus from SdC to Salamanca and spent 3 days exploring this beautiful, historic university city before catching the train on to Madrid & home. Also in the past when I had time to kill in Madrid...

    Samos option?

    Stayed there as well. Recommended.

Is it legal to walk the Camino alone?

I met a number of Danes on my two Caminos. Obviously they were scofflaws!

Are there snakes on the Camino?

Thanks for that, Ivar. I feel a little better now. Greetings from California!

Are there snakes on the Camino?

I met this fellow in my bathroom at La Casa del Peregrino in El Acebo...mildly poisonous Montpelier - I grabbed my lance (hiking pole) to joust him out into the hallway, then out the door into the night. I must have looked Cervantes-esque battling monsters in my underwear!

    Getting Old.

Funny thread - thanks all! I walked the full CF a few years back at 75 - then went back for a 2nd dose the next year. Now I'm planning the Ruta Portuguese, but that will have to wait until I'm a little bit older. BTW those are Rx sunglasses I'm wearing so I can see all those 'certain age' girls!

    Coffee in Spain

Never comes with sugar, Katherine - but it is on table or bar someplace for those who need sweetening.

    Nightwear

I noted that even when the ladies were just wearing bra & panties, the guys politely only looked at the covered parts... BC

Pre-Camino nights in Pamplona and SJPP

I would say 1 day in Pamplona, 1 in SJ, if you need a rest after the trip down the mountains, take another rest day in Pamplona then. If you're doing fine, I'd save the day for a little extra time in either Burgos or Leon, or any other city you'd like to explore. Buen Camino

Save the Bottom Bunks for the Elderly

Funny - At this moment I'm reading this thread in a top bunk in a hostel in Grand Lake, Colorado. I chose it because I can get a glimpse out the window and I'm happy. Im also 77. On my Caminos, I just took what was available, prefer tops .

Save the Bottom Bunks for the Elderly

I have walked twice, once from SJ & once from Leon, at ages 75 & 76. When I get old, I hope some future pilgrim will save me a bottom bunk!

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

I, too wanted to attend the opera in Madrid. I did too, in clothes I bought in Madrid!

    1st Camino Frances!!!

Buen Camino! I'm envious, wishing I could get away for my camino #3 this year... I should have studied harder in school & become someone with a better paying job.

Hi I am 70 years old and I'm going to attempt my first Camino in April 2017

Hello Gerhard, It seems all of your questions have been fully answered.... I walked the Frances from St Jean in 2015 at age 75, then returned last year to walk again, although only from León, to accompany a good friend. I am considering another pilgrimage next fall - yes I'll be 77 then - so...

    Backpack = Favorite new toy

I love my Exos - 2 caminos, plus lots of local hikes over the past 3 years - It has a few stains, but no real signs of fatigue. More room in it that I needed on the Camino, but nice to be able to buy some gifts, and some 'civilian clothes' at the end and still get everything in for the flight home.

Help for the unfit! How many hours from Orisson to Roncesvalles?

Also bear in mind that Naismith was an optimist!

    First Camino, Beginning May, 2016!

Hi Jane, Our plans are firming up. Jim & I will be arriving in Leon June 1st evening. We will be laying over a day, then starting leisurely out on the 3rd, probably staying in Villadangos on the way. Hope to say hello. Buen Camino Dave

    Which Osprey backpack?

I believe the 28 will work - but it is going to be tight. I'm 6'3, 200 lbs and managed to get everything needed in my Talon 33l - however, I felt it was too small for me. I opted to go with my Exos 47 - yes, I had a lot of extra room, but it didn't increase the weight very much. I was glad I...

    First Camino, Beginning May, 2016!

I did exactly the same last year - and arrived in Santiago on June 13th. Wonderful time of year. This year I'll be starting in Leon, mostly to re-live a wonderful experience and also to accompany a friend on his first camino. We should be leaving Leon about June 3 or 4 and hoping to catch the...
