Quiet Week in Sao Pedro de Rates

Hello from San Pedro de Rates, for many the first "real" night out of Porto. I'm in my second week as hospitalera with Diane from Houston. It's very soggy, and expected to be all week. Last night we had 6 guests, tonight 4. Last week we averaged 30 a night. When you walk absolutely affects your...

    Live from Primitivo

¡hola! We are in San Romao today at the municipal. Just us! Yesterday was beautiful, sunny and warmer than I expected. It rained hard last night and drizzle all day, leaving some major mud and running water on the trail that can't be avoided. In Lugo a wonderful female guide gave us un...

Luxury digs Walk and Horrero on the Norte

From the April 2016 Conde Nast Traveller. The Ribadeo public albergue is great, but only 10 beds. Sleep in a fancy corn crib! The article says hostels and hotels are "mediocre at best." Hmm. Not for the pilgrim crowd. App is Walk and Horrero.

Arriving and Departing the Primitivo for 100km

Hi All, I just caused myself to panic because I forgot which bus line schedule to look at. We are flying Boston-Madrid-A Coruna, then taking the Arriva, not Alsa, bus to Lugo to begin. The Arriva bus takes about an hour and costs 11 euro. The Alsa bus goes to Oviedo, then back to Lugo, in 6.5...

Iberia has Changed the date and time for My Flight Four Times

Hi Folks, Just a heads up to be sure your airline's emails aren't going in the spam folder. I am going back for a not-quite-usual route in April and am flying from Boston to A Coruna, walking Lugo to SdC, and flying back from Sdc to Boston. Every time Iberia makes a change I have to coordinate...

LIVE from the Camino Oviedo Albergue Caution

Albergue Villa Ceceila: We didn't stay because I trusted my gut, maybe others have had a good experience. Concrete concern is that it is a fire trap, with beds jammed into windowless basement rooms and you'd have to cross through the kitchen to get out. Hopefully the fire isn't in the kitchen...

LIVE from the Camino Oviedo Cathedral pilgrim visit

The marvelous audiotour of the cathedral, museum and treasures is only 4 euros for pilgrims. The pilgrim cemetery deserves a visit. I was well-treated at Clinica Asturius today, back up to the norte soon. Heading westward on the norte

LIVE from the Camino Tunnel closed heading into Castro on the Norte

Looks like it has been for a while, but leaving the beach you have to go up and over to get to the promenade. You can ignore the arrows at the first row of apartment blocks, go left onto the street, follow signs to town center and rejoin the camino on the promenade without wandering on the sand...
