    Camino provides - also religiously

My wife often says that God's other name is" it just so happened"

    Bourbon and cigars

It has been my impression (as a Kentucky resident) that the bourbon opportunities are occasional in Spain. I almost never saw much of a bourbon selection, if any. I also enjoy a cigar and was somewhat disappointed in the lack of selection (casual selection) available. I was able to find some...

This might be a good deal for someone

I belong to Dollar Flight Club and this was just posted. It may take a membership, I don't know but the site reads that they can be booked through Google Flights or Skyscanner. Maybe worth a try! | DEAL DETAILS Destination Barcelona (BCN) Departure Airport Nashville (BNA): $525...

    Is this Camino clothing heresy?

I'll suggest that you consider, David this: https://gibson-barnes.com/product/apparel/flight-suits/one-piece-flight-suits/cwu-27p-nomex-flight-suits/cwu-27p-nomex-flight-suits/ Lightweight, quick drying, and will protect you from potential wild fires......

Cool and fun tools (gift for mom)

Why not something simple that says YOU that is light weight and easy to pack or carry. She will treasure it.

Student Research into the Camino de Santiago

I hope you are successful in getting some understandable data. I recognize that every survey is flawed to some degree just like its author and respondents; my comment uncovers my Christian position, no doubt! I pray for some wisdom and discernment for you in helping others see the value (or, I...

    From Viseu to Santiago

I walked from Viseu in 2014 and I have the Compostela to prove it! I surely don't know who might have told you that since all those "ways" finish on known routes, always for the last 100km. That, alone, would allow you to have the recognition by the church. I sometimes wonder if the folks who...

    Thefts in albergue

Is there a "used pilgrimage stuff" place around? While I may be willing to use recycled gear, it may be wise to spread the word that it's not a good idea to purchase it in / around Logroño.

Albergues on Camino Portuguese Coastal in October

I traveled that route in 2019. I believe it was in October, perhaps late September and I found no problem getting albergues

Car rental from Santiago to Lisbon

A side note: I have rented a car in Germany (post military service) several times over the last 5 years and have never been asked for an International Driver's License. I have only provided a stateside (valid) one. While I have purchased International ones (always from AAA), they have gone...

Mid 70 Male & Potential Issues

I, too, have "old man" problems and 2x a night would be a gift! That said, I'm planning to go again (probably next spring) at 76. While talking with my friend who wants to go (78) we agreed that the greater concern was top bunks! We'll work it out and so will you. Buen Camino / Bom Caminho!

    Electrolytes.

I don't own any stock in this company, but I purchase at the local Walmart a product called "NUUN" hydration. It's cheap (about $ .50 a tab) and it's designed to go into a standard (plastic) bottle of water. It wasn't my go to before but has become that. It's very easy to carry (small plastic...

    Walking Verin to Viseu

Having started in Viseu a number of years ago, I had trouble finding the route marks. They have, I believe, been significantly updated now. My "key" to navigation was the N2. You may get off the route, but never misoriented!

    Pilgrim rest place in Santiago?

They are great folks at the Pilgrim House. If you have any spare currency it's a good opportunity to invest in future pilgrims.

My Camino ended a few hours ago sadly, need to get back to UK asap

grumpygit, I also pray that you will find comfort after the loss and that you will quickly and smoothly return home. I also pray that you will be able to return to your pilgrimage, perhaps with new meaning for you in it.

    Payment on Booking .com

I'll admit that as I get older I'm less concerned about the exchange rate cost and more concerned about the availability. That said, I think I always deal in $ on booking.com if for nothing else than comparison. I guess I'm fortunate that I can afford those things that I book and, truthfully...

    Roncesvalles cross

Having made the train trip from Kaiserslautern to SJPdP (1 time) and Kaiserslautern to Lisbon (2), I can say it is not really pleasant (and I used a sleeper and the fast train!). I returned 2 times and that wasn't fun either. They all took me through Paris and included me having to find a...

Best way of converting $CA to Euros

I find it hard to exchange $ for almost any other currency where I live, but I have easily found a BANK ATM (emphasis on bank) to use my debit card (I do carry 2 separate cards / accounts) soon after arrival. I've seldom had any problems getting currency.

Strangest food & drink on the Camino

I remember my surprise when I ordered a variation of (what I thought was pulpo) and it turned out to be, primarily, the "ink" in a stew form. I have a fairly strong stomach (after all I spent 30 years in the US Army) so I ate it. It wasn't the worst thing I ever had, just the most surprising...
