    RENFE April 2024

Last year, in August 2023, I was looking to get tickets from Santiago to Madrid. I knew it was likely to be busy. I purchased tickets from RailClick. Renfe's online site didn't have tickets available at this time. They appeared about two weeks later on the Renfe site. I also wonder how it...

    RENFE April 2024

Yes, in 2018, 2019 and 2022 I booked early with Petrabax from Barcelona to Pamplona on the way to St Jean. Last year I booked early from Santiago to Madrid with RailClick and have this years tickets from RailClick from Barcelona to Pamplona.

    RENFE April 2024

I have used Petrabax (US) and RailClick (AUS) this year and always am able to book tickets before RENFE lists trains as available.

Ride share Ride share 23 April 2024 Pamplona to St Jean PdP

All the best for your journey. A few years back they used to have a 2.30 bus but I think it's 12 and 1.30 in the busy months now.

    Goretex shoes?

Yes, definitely need to clean the boots if they are so dirty that the gortex is blocked. Once cleaned they will work as designed.

    Goretex shoes?

That isn't my experience. I have walked in summer on the Frances, in Japan and on the via Francigena and found the opposite. Gortex fabric allows moisture to evaporate. Perhaps it is down to individual differences.

This is where to obtain halfway certificate in Sahagun

So where did you end up getting the certificate?

This is where to obtain halfway certificate in Sahagun

We went there in May 2022 and they told us to go to the Tourism office. We did get a certificate at the Santuario in 2018.

    Zen Garden before Lorca

It was a welcome stop in 2019 when we walked, but was looking pretty shabby when we passed by last year. What a shame.

What happened to the Beer Garden made of glass bottles?!

Along those lines, is the Templar knight at Manjarin after the Cruz de Ferro still there?

Camino Francés Federación to ban suitcases in their albergues (11 albergues affected by this rule)

Not quite the Sherpa strike at Everest base camp, but a step in the right direction I think.

Pilgrim office statistics from SJPDP - numbers up 33% on last year

I find it hard to reconcile the numbers with what you see on the trail. When we walked last year, 2022, we were told that everywhere was booked out, but I think that meant double rooms as albergue beds were available. Most days up until Sarria weren't crowded at all and many cafes that had...

Isla in Burgos ... oh, I forgot that it's the best burger place that I've had on the Camino

20% drop in pilgrim numbers at Roncesvalles

We walked in May and June this year. My observation was that all of the private rooms were booked but albergue dorms were not full. There were noticeably fewer people on the trail with many cafes nearly empty. I think Covid is the main reason.

20% drop in pilgrim numbers at Roncesvalles

I think Covid and travel concerns are major reasons.
