I did the Norte in April, and yes it is a much more solitary path than the Frances at the same time of year. As said above - it is possible not to see another pilgrim for a full day, indeed, I barely saw any for the first two weeks, but those I did encounter were great fun. (i.e. to have a few...
I had a couple of blips with it not counting distances but not really a scramble. Couple of times it wouldn't load up and then I had to revert to view ranger as inevitably these were the times when it was most needed - Sod's law - but for the most part it was pretty stable.
so im on a Android phone so got t from google play - sure you can get it for apple/windowsfrom their stores as well. it is from 'editorial buen camino' which it has as a subtitle and when it loads up. i think there might be other apps using the same name as 'buen camino' ?
if its the same app - go to 'index of localities' and hen select eg Irun then just under the picture you see a selection of icons in white - so find the map icon and press and hey presto or something like that the map should come up.
i am currently using the app on CdeNorte and it is a godsend...
i would think hard about doing the lisbon to porto bit - some nice bits to be sure, but a lot of tarmac and dodging traffic and little shade in the hot months. from porto onwards its lovely.
Hi,
Am also planning on walking Norte starting last week of March and planning to play accommodation by ear. I plan on trying to book ahead each day rather than leaving it entirely to chance.
Thank you for your reply to my post. It wasn't a prescription for anyone, rather just my experience which I hoped would help someone who is wondering whether they should attempt a 26 day Camino. Apologies if you felt that that offended against your superior understanding of Spirituality. I...
If, as you say, you are doing this in two parts I don't think 26 days would be too much at all. I also think that completing the full CF would be a more fulfilling experience than plodding along and waiting for a few more years to cover the last section. I would however do a bit of training for...
Although the snow was omnipresent from viscarret, the paths themselves had little snow on them. After zubiri it's all gone and like a pleasant spring day.
Napoleon route is closed, unfortunately Valcarlos route is advised by the pilgrim office this morning. However there is still plenty of snow around when you get back on the path after Roncesvalles, makes it hard going in places - on my way to Viscarret currently.
I've never experienced those problems with Seal Skins, including the gloves. I've done a big chunk of hiking in pretty horrible conditions with them over the years, and haven't experienced 'prunisation' (this must be the verb!) and they have done well and kept the blisters away. I found with...
I'm walking in April as well this year, but starting late March, and expecting wet weather and snow. I am taking goretex rain pants that pack down really small, and rather than gaiters using sealskinz socks to try to keep the wet out. Boots are never really waterproof. Nonetheless, in horrendous...
