Are you a hiker or a walker?

This, it seems to me, hits the difference. Though one’s mind may wander on a hike, otherworldly contemplation can be very unsafe in the mountains where I live. Camino walking lends itself to contemplation on one channel, and on another there is a general awareness of surroundings in order to...

🚄 New high speed train Madrid Oviedo

This is good news. The fast trains I have taken in Spain are fantastic. When my flight from SdC was abruptly canceled there were no others leaving early enough to salvage my flight plan. I bought a ticket for the high speed train leaving Santiago at 5:00am for Madrid airport, and arrived (just)...

Last 100km of Camino de Santiago Follow the Camino

Hi @cwalden, If you enter “Sarria” into the search function at the top of this screen you’ll likely find all you ever wanted to know and more from those who have begun there and those who have walked through there toward the end of their various Camino routes. Happy planning! All the best Paul

    Birding the Camino

Thanks @Grahamby for your post about an aspect of the Camino (any Camino!) that seemingly is often ignored, perhaps a victim of the modern trend for hurry and busyness. I’ll second those who added the Merlin app to their mobiles and were able to identify by bird song, even if the songster was...

The Camino Ingles - a short review

Hi BarbC, I walked the Inglés last mid May and it didn’t rain at all, though this is a rarity in Galicia. I selected stops to avoid walking very long days, adding a day or two to the itinerary for “widening” the walk over a little more time. This time, since I was walking with someone new to...

Walking a camino after knee replacement

Hi Heidi, I too had a total left knee replacement after a total right hip replacement. I have been an athlete most of my life, and the thing I noticed the most during my knee recovery was a loss of muscle mass and consequent weakness in the area surrounding the knee and throughout the attached...

    Best 5 days

For the Inglés , you just have to go and take your chances. I hit a sweet spot in April (!) on the Inglés. Six days of glorious weather and no rain at all.

My first Camino Frances after the apnea diagnosis

That’s the one I just brought on the Ingles —P P.S. Amazon sells something that you can replace the water reservoir with. It snaps into place on the side of the Airsense 10, and you have a smooth side instead of the bulky reservoir. I don’t mess with water on the Camino. Of courseYMMV.

    Sleep Apnea

Hi @TheLaw14, I did carry mine but on a warm Inglés, so not much clothing to carry. If I were in your shoes, I might consider having part of my load transported as I walk. Some may not be comfortable using baggage transport for their CPAP machine. It that’s the case with you, you might consider...

Poles on the Plane and Security

@dougfitz, Yes it’s true. The quality might not always be there, but for a no-frills telescoping and locking stick it did the trick for about €6.00. I’m done bringing my sticks with me. All the best, Paul

Poles on the Plane and Security

Even if you can’t find a hiking/sporting goods store you can almost always find a China Bazaar with an assortment of no-name walking sticks, folding or telescoping. I found mine while I was walking up the main shopping street in Ferrol. It served me well through the daily uphills of the Inglés...

Men's Pants - There Can Be Only One

The OP: So to my question: If you were going to take only one pair of pants (no zip-offs), what would they be? Thanks! The OP is not asking about anyone else’s love of or problems with zip offs. They just want to know what kind of *non zip-off* trousers you have worn and can recommend, or not.

Men's Pants - There Can Be Only One

Hi, Last walked in May wearing (for the first time) Kuhl Renegade trousers every day. They’re pricey but bombproof, mostly nylon with some added stretch, and very lightweight. They also have pockets galore that will fit your phone and other stuff you need close by in the zipped pockets. In the...
