I probably won’t do this again

I have stayed in a hostel with a CPAP user who stored his machine on the floor next to his bunk. I’m the early hours one man stumbled over it on the way for an urgent bathroom visit and it went flying. Both men were in tears. In this case unless you have some kind of bedside table to hog, a...

This is a very Negative Post. A Vent.

I am not one of the aforementioned slow-walkers, nor have I ever started in SJPP. Nor am I inventing ;) I met various said walkers in Leon and Melide. Most preferred to leave after 8:30am to avoid walking in the dark. They had made it up to 3km/hr by this point. As I said, outliers.

This is a very Negative Post. A Vent.

Of the outliers, I spoke to people who took 14 and 15 hours from SJPP and 12, 13 and 15 from from Orisson. They generally told me that in "mildly" hilly areas st home they walked 2km/hr inclusive of water/snack/loo breaks. Given the difference the Pyrenees presents, they arrived basically when...

New and Old trail into Portomarin

I was never more thankful for my two hiking poles than I was going down that track. At the back of my mind I was concerned about causing a bottleneck at the slow pace I descended but after the first 10m I was beyond caring. I hadn't clambered down such steep rocks since childhood! The other...

This is a very Negative Post. A Vent.

I spoke to several who took 14+ hours to reach Roncesvalles!

    Petty theft

I rather hope that all of us in need of something, on the road or in life, find the courage and humility to let go of our egos. Take the chance confide in new friends and fellow travelers about wants and requirements and fears and hopes, rather than resorting to theft.

Help a sister out - I have no thigh gap

Which ExOfficio boxer briefs to the laydees (or, why not? the gents) here wear? Strech-N-Go or Give-N-Go?

A question to the wise: starting in Samos or Sarria?

Thank you for your lovely responses. I will be walking the Camino after attending a conference and before going on a shorter holiday, and will be coming in an out of Spain from different airports so bag transfer is a likely necessity. As much as I would love to walk as far or as little as I...

A question to the wise: starting in Samos or Sarria?

Pretty much, though not necessarily everything. The first 2, maybe 3 nights, sure. I operate best if I have plans A and B and C set firmly (if only in my own mind). Then when I have to deal with unexpected, a Plan D can be conjured with more confidence. Even with my daily goals dancing in my...

A question to the wise: starting in Samos or Sarria?

Hi @C, thank you for your response. I tentatively plan to walk it in 6 days, which will mean I fly out the following evening after I arrive. Honestly, the part of the reason I want to book in advance is to avoid the rhythm of walking to a hostal, sleeping and washing in the afternoon, eating...

A question to the wise: starting in Samos or Sarria?

I travel in October. If start my journey in Samos I will by unavoidable circumstances will arrive at 8pm and miss Vespers (and likely miss a monastery tour the next day). Is it still worth staying in the town for a visit under 12 hours under these circumstances? I am walking this Camino on...

    Bus to Samos

Samos question - if I start my journey in Samos and by unavoidable circumstances will arrive at 8pm and miss Vespers (and likely miss a tour the next day) is it still worth staying in the town?

Fave Accomodation from Sarria to Santiago. Also, a question of days.

Thank you for all these suggestions. It looks like, even in the most "maligned" segment of the Camino, that many pilgrims can find the odd place of gratitude and happiness.

Fave Accomodation from Sarria to Santiago. Also, a question of days.

Hey @Robo I have the budget for 60 euros a day. Due to dietary issues I primarily live on sachets of protein powder for shakes in such situations, so I should be able to spend a minimum on extra food (wine and coffee on the other hand...) ;)

Not just sad now... Very sad.....

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Lee. I don't think anything truly prepares us for the loss of a precious parent.

Fave Accomodation from Sarria to Santiago. Also, a question of days.

I have 9 days to walk and I am doing so in order to get a Compostela for a relative. Because I will be walking with a day pack and will be sending my bag ahead, I am pre-booking accomodation and can hopefully not have to sprint for a bed but enjoy the road. As I will be missing the more scenic...

    Online Luggage Transfer Booking?

Fabulous, @Caminofácil! My 15kg bag and I will be very happy, whilst the piano will stay at home and be envious!
