Seeking Resources for Camino de Levante

Hi @JLH83. I walked the Camino de Levante in 2022. My main resources were - the Associacon Amigos del Camino de Santiago Comunidad Valencia website, which you mentioned, and the OUTDOOR Camino de Levante guidebook (which is in German). Both provide GPS track files, which I uploaded into a GPS...

Trekking poles: Folding vs. Telescoping - Which one is the better option?

Although I have used folding poles in the past, I am now using telescoping poles for two reasons: 1. I've become a fan of Pacer Poles (http://pacerpole.com). All their models are telescoping. 2. I have an Osprey backpack with a trekking pole holder, which works very well with telescoping poles...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD The Omicron variant and its implications for the camino

There is a covid testing facility at the Santiago de Compostela airport (and other airports across Spain). https://eurofins-megalab.com/en/eurofins-megalab-is-carrying-out-testing-for-covid-in-12-spanish-airports/

Is the Camino de Levante an official Camino route recognized by the Pilgrim Office?

Thank you all very much for clarifying the issue. Again, it's really not a big deal. I was just curious to know if there was any official policy at the Pilgrim's Office which precludes certain routes that may not be recognized.

Is the Camino de Levante an official Camino route recognized by the Pilgrim Office?

Recently I met a fellow pilgrim while I was walking the Camino Invierno/Sanabrés earlier this month. He started his Camino in Almería and walked the Camino Mozárabe route before joining the Via de Plata/Sanabrés route into Santiago de Compostela (which is normal). He arrived in SdC a day before...

Camino Levante guide book in English

Hi Raymond. Thanks for posting. I'm actually planning to do the same next year and am also looking for a Camino Levante guide in English. Unfortunately, I haven't found one yet. I'll keep looking. I'm not sure if it helps you, but there is a 2020 Outdoor guide in German from Conrad-Stein press...

This is wonderful news @Kevin Considine! Thank you so very much for your information :)

Accommodation Availability on the Invierno (September & October 2021)

Thank you so much peregrina2000. I was so sorry to read of NadineK's food poisoning, but delighted to read about the joys she encountered during her adventure on Invierno. I'll try to keep the forum posted as I go and will certainly comment about the accommodation on the Wise Pilgrim app.

Accommodation Availability on the Invierno (September & October 2021)

I plan to start walking the Invierno from Ponferrada on 29 September. I have both the Brierley guide and the Wise Pilgrim app, which provide accommodation information along the route; however, I am concerned that accommodation availability may have suffered substantially since the COVID era...

    Euros or Francs?

I agree with @pepi. I live in Switzerland. Paying with euros at grocery stores, restaurants, kiosks, etc. is complicated and disadvantageous at best. Apple Pay, Twint, and/or credit cards are accepted in most businesses, but it is also a good idea to have a little cash on hand - just in case.

    Camino Invierno july 9th 2021

Wonderful! If all goes according to plan, I will be walking the Invierno in October. I've never walked it before and am really looking forward to experiencing this beautiful way. Please keep us informed about your experience. Buen Camino!

    Camino Norte or?

I guess it depends on what is considered scenic and beautiful. The Senabrés is very pastoral and as far as I remember is largely off asphalt roads. I found it very scenic and beautiful in its own way. But I guess “scenic” is subjective. The Sanabrés also ends at Santiago and allows for a...

    Camino Norte or?

Another option is to walk the Camino Sanabrés starting in Ourense and finishing in Santiago de Compostela. The distance is 108km which can be easily done in 5 stages. I highly recommend John Brierley's guide book which you can purchase on this website. Ourense is a wonderful city with Roman hot...

    Invierno in July ‘21

Hi Thomas. I am planning to walk the Invierno in September or October. I'm not sure where I will start yet (León or perhaps somewhere earlier on the Francés). Please let us know about your Invierno experience in July. I (and I'm sure others) would be very appreciative of any recommendations and...

Do you carry an umbrella for the Camino?

I've just bought this exact model from Euroshirm with the silver reflective fabric. I haven't used it yet on a Camino, but if everything goes to plan I'll be using it on the Meseta in September. I have attached it to my backpack, just to try it out, and it seems robust, comfortable to wear, and...

Checked the “toe issues” threads... this one is not addressed (so far)

I have noticed this also. When I forget to cut my toenails and let them grow even a little, I begin to suffer from toenail bed bruising, especially on my big toes and my second toes. This has resulted in a lot of pain and the loss of many toenails over the years. I really don't understand what...

    Leaving Tomorrow- Coastal or Inland

I walked the costal route last year (including the Spiritual route) and loved it! I have not walked the inland route so I can't compare the two. If you do decide to walk the coastal route, don't make the same mistake I did by walking in sandals on the beach and then continuing for the rest of...

When a camino does not exactly go the way you’ve planned

Thank you so much @craiger1511 for sharing this. What an amazing video. I walked this same route in June of this year and also suffered from very bad blisters, but fortunately mine didn't become as badly infected as Rick's and I didn't need to go to the hospital. This video brought back so many...

    Trekking Pole Suggestions

Mine are carbon fibre (the dual-lock model). I'm a recent convert to pacer-poles and I've fallen in love with them. I had a chance to really check them out earlier this year when I walked the Camino Portugués and the Camino Inglés. I also used them for a few days on one of the Jakobsweg trails...

Does anyone know what the origin and story is surrounding the tradition of walking to Fisterra & Muxía after arriving in Santiago de Compostela?

I love the walk from Santiago de Compostela to Muxía and Fisterra. I have walked to the coast four times and hope to be able to walk this way many more times in the future after arriving in Santiago de Compostela. I know in my soul that my camino is truly complete when I sit on the Priaia de Mar...
