We began our first camino in early September 2014 from Carrion de los Condes and took seven days to reach Astorga. I'm so glad we hadn't read about "the meseta" beforehand and begun with a pre-conceived idea of what was ahead, because we loved every minute of our walk. We loved the wide skies...
We began our first camino in Carrion de los Condes and finished 7 days later in Astorga due to a clot in my husbands leg. We loved every step of our walk, marvelling at the scenery, the quaint villages, grand cathedrals, long stretches of trail through wide open fields, huge skies and...
Our daughter gave us the dvd in 2012 for Christmas, and it was the inspiration for us to walk in 2014. I still love the movie, and now our local SBS channel is showing it regularly, so I get another dose often.
My husband and I began our camino from Carrion de los Condes, and even though we had natural nerves in the weeks before, the night before we began walking I remember thinking that there was no way I could do this walk. I almost felt sick with dread. But at the end of that first day everything...
Hi @Kanga. I feel a sense of "homesickness" whenever I catch a glimpse of my trusty backpack, and we have, in the past, filled ours with odds and ends just to go for a walk. My husband and I have been walking a 200km trail called the Goldfields Trail, from Buninyong to Bendigo. Its beautiful and...

Monasterio de las Benedictinas (Carbajalas),
My husband and I stayed here, it was fabulous. Met by a lovely nun handing out plums and water while we waited to book in. Those on the registration desk asked us if we were married and when we...
We walked the portion from Carrion des los Condes to Astorga in 2014 and were just thrilled with how beautiful it was. We had to pull out there due to my husband developing a clot in his leg, but only found out later that we had in fact walked the dreaded Meseta!! One of my most memorable...
Thanks to everyone who replied. I do feel more confident, just need to be disciplined with the rehab! We have begun to talk and plan for 2020, to celebrate our 60th birthdays, exciting
Thanks so much for replying. Did you mean that you were able to keep walking next day after 20 kms, or needed to have a rest and recovery day? Good to hear that it wasn't as bad as you thought, I'm a nurse too and some folk make it look easy while other younger patients make it look horrific...
Hi, my husband and I walked part of the Camino Frances in 2014 and found it to be one of the best experiences of our lives. The plan was to go back two years later and finish it. In the meantime I tore a meniscus in my knee at boot camp, had it repaired (was not a good job) and since have...
We began our walk at Carrion de los Condes and just loved it! Didn't even realise we were on the 'dreaded' meseta until much later. We found ourselves sitting in ditches beside the roads with other pilgrims and taking advantage of any tree shade we could find, and had the most amazing...
Beautiful photo of the cathedral windows, such a peace filled place to spend some time.
We had to cut short our first camino in 2014, too as my husband developed a clot in his leg. It was a very disappointing time for us, but we had three wonderful days in Astorga with other pilgrims (now good...
Before we began our camino in 2014 I kept reading on this forum about the long, dreary, boring, dirty, etc etc walks in to the bigger cities such as Leon and Burgos, and found myself quite worried and nervous as we approached them. But my actual experience was totally different! Yes there were...
Oh lovely Angela. You will definitely meet some amazing people and have some wonderful adventures as well as finding time to just be by yourself.
God bless your reflection times
Buen camino,
Ann-Maree
My husband left his waterproof backpack cover on our table, but he used a large garbage bag given to us at our first albergue instead. It was very effective, but pretty noisy as it flapped about in the wind and rain! On the flip side we could have left so many other things on our kitchen table!!!!
Lovely encouraging discussion.
I have three memorable surprises that happened for us while we were walking in September 2014. .....
1. While walking across the meseta i mentioned to my husband that I had a fantasy of turning a corner and finding a man with a camp stove giving out cups of tea...
