    Snoring

Snorers should take a separate room. Depriving sleep for a room full of people is inconsiderate. Snorers - one reason I will not be be using the hostels.Same issue in Alpine mountain huts and Appalachian trail shelters but least you can camp outside in those two.

    Pack Weight and Other Impediments

I haven't been on the Camino but done several thousand miles hiking some of the worlds best trails. Although I started out with fairly lightweight gear, however I have honed down to a base weight of around 6kg; that is including a shelter (TarpTent Notch), sleeping gear etc but not counting...

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

Any staff/portable prop will be useful to lean on, off-load weight and aid balance. Important to realise that walking gait can be looked as a Science concerning Loads and Levers; trunk/backpack as the Load and limbs as Levers; these levers will be lifting-and-shifting the load around. It is...

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

Add oatmeal to large yoghurt and leave overnight; add a teaspoon of coffee if caffeine is required. Great for a quick pick me up in the morning; good to hike off and get something more substantial when it appears on the route.

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

Heather at Pacerpoles as good info on this subject. Pole use especially going uphill or downhill the quadruped approach certainly helps me. Used correctly you can observe yourself how the poles are assisting by using the upper body muscles to lift the torso and backpack, aiding the quadraceps...

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

How much weight are you likely to carry, if not much there is less use for them. I have not been on the Camino but have done several thousand miles in the US, EU and GB and now have Pacerpoles after many miles with hiking poles. Poles do have other uses pushing back nettles and scrub; loss count...

    Two weeks available in September

In March I had flights and plans to walk from Vigo on the Portugues and then on to the Finisterre. However I pulled out as the weather forecast was so poor. I have a flight voucher and would like walk on the Camino. Looking at the Atlantic coast weather pattern it seems fog and rain might not be...

Daily Distances v Risk of Injury for those who are not exactly Fit or Slim

I am used to wild camping along trails so can chose to stop walking when I like. When you have to factor in accommodation on the Camino I guessed early starts and longer finishes might not be so easy. I do know from BnB`s, staff are not too keen to serve early breakfasts so you can get away.

Medical assistance for multiple large blisters, both feet!

Read Ray Jardines Book Beyond Backpacking particularly the chapter on footwear. Ray is a pilot, endurance kayaker and long distance hiker of the three major US trail and many more. Rarely goes near boots; like me. He carries fabric boots for kicking steps in snow, otherwise it is a running shoe...

Daily Distances v Risk of Injury for those who are not exactly Fit or Slim

I have not been on the Camino, but done several thousand miles on other trails in the US, UK and France, the accepted wisdom to do big miles a day is not to walk fast but walk long i.e early starts and late finishes; not easy to do on the Camino with the accommodation. I do 24 k or so a day.

To stop Compeed edges sticking to the socks sprinkle talcum powder on the edges before putting on the socks.

Serious Doubts 3 Weeks Before Camino

Not my original thought but this is good about hiking long trails. After two or three days you will think; "What on earth was I so worried about?" In four or five days your next overwhelming feeling will be- "How am I ever going to leave this place" and in 60 days, it will be "When can I get...

    Generic long distance walking question

I favour starting hiking training by walking a few miles every other day with the gear you intend to use. About two/three weeks before you leave I would then do a multi day hike about a third of the distance you intend to do on a trail. This will give you the confidence that you have the fitness...
