    Trekking Pole Suggestions

I worked as a tour leader in Asia for 12 years and used trekking poles most days as well as using them on three Caminos, and have used many brands and styles of trekking poles over the years. I recommend two poles (if you were thinking of just one). I prefer poles with a cork handle as I tend to...

Last 100k - Getting to Tui from Vigo Airport

Depending on the time you arrive, take the train. It’s comfortable and cheap at around €4 and takes around 45 mins. Regular buses run from the airport to Vigo city to connect to the train and take about 30 mins for around €1.50 from memory. Vigo tourist info office are very helpful and speak...

Pilgrim's passport for Portuguese Camino and Albergues List?

I walked from Lisbon last October/November and as it was end of season many places were closed, so yes I found it a little more expensive between Lisbon and Porto than the CF, but there were still many good value and lovely places. Most of the places I stayed at were private, but not too pricey...

    Crocs Rule

FYI: Apparently you can distinguish between an alligator and a croc by whether it sees you later or in a while.

Some current updates from the Portuguese Camino

I’ll let you know. I’m hoping for some cool weather. I live in Indonesia, so cool I’d novel for me. But the forecast for tomorrow in Lisbon is 29°!

Some current updates from the Portuguese Camino

I'm a little behind you -- I start from Lisbon next week. Good to know -- please keep posting updates (and suggestions of where you did stay if you have time!). Thank you.

    Burst my camino bubble.

I never imagined that I would have a “bad experience” — but the one thing that really surprised me was a loss of faith that I would finish. I had read about blisters, but I walked with very worn-in boots, and walked a lot as part of my job (well, did when I walked my camino) so didn’t expect...

Gear / Weight - Packing List Thoughts, Opinions, Questions

I'd ditch the shampoo, conditioner and hand sanitiser -- the Dr Boners soap will be adequate and you can also use it to wash your clothes. Consider cutting it in half and carrying both halves, that way it lasts longer and doesn't just wash down the sink. Ibuprofen is really cheap in Spain too...

    Smartphones, ugh!

I love my phone, and agree with PANO on it's usefulness, but fear the 'zombie apocalypse'. Sometimes I go to a restaurant and there are tables and tables of people not talking to each other, but looking at their phones. There is a time and a place... "and a time to every purpose under the heaven".

Camino to support Health of Mums & Babies in Indonesia

I will be starting my Camino is Paris at the begging of October 2014, cycling to St Jean via the Tours route, then walking the Camino Frances and hopefully on to Finisterre. My Camino is self funded, but on my trip I am hoping to raise funds for Bumi Sehat, a health charity in Indonesia who...

From Paris to the end of the world - my blog

Hi Fellow Pilgrims, I have just started my Camino Blog. I've never blogged before, so it's a bit of a learning curve for me. Come to think of it I've never walked for more than a month before! I'm just in the planning stages, so my story so far will only be about that, as it's my first Camino...

    Got Milk?

That other stuff is not coffee! ;) However, others may argue that UHT milk is not milk!

    Trimming Backpack Straps

I was reading an 'ultralight' blog, and they suggested to cut the straps! The ones that hang down from the shoulder adjustments I find useful to hang onto to, to 'let my armpits air' while I walk (that's without poles), or just while you rest.

    Got Milk?

Thanks Michryan, it's just there's some things I not ready to give up just yet ;). Got the coffee (I live in the land of coffee), got the mug, and would really like the milk!

    Got Milk?

Is UHT milk in small boxes (200ml or thereabouts) readily available in Spain (& France for that matter)? Got to have milk in my coffee, got to have my coffee before the cafés open... Prefer UHT over powdered or condensed, even if it weighs more!

Can we do some Pillow talk?

My favourite is a Thermarest squashable pillow. I have a small and a medium for different travel requirements. I bought a Cocoon Down one once, but sent it back, as it was too flat for sleeping (not enough down). The Thermarest one is made from the bits they cut out of the filling in their...

    Walking Sandals???

Ecco Brand! I work as a tour leader in Indonesia, where it can be hot and muddy, and I've tried just about very brand on the market over the years. I will only buy Ecco now, as they have the best grip on slippery rocks, give good support and I've never had a blister... And I wear them just about...
