Perhaps a future pilgrim who is reading this thread and who will be walking along this route will bring along a trash bag and some disposable gloves, and will simply remove as many of them as he/she can reach?
A great memory from my first day on the Frances is sitting on a wall having lunch with my brand new camino family...I brought a bocadillo and fruit from SJPP.
Well this just triggered a memory from my childhood...I grew up in the central part of the United States (Indiana), and when it was cold outside, before we went out to play we would put on a sweat sack. This was perfectly normal until I went to college and discovered I was actually wearing a...
I stayed in Porto a couple weeks ago on the way home after walking the Camino Portugues coastal. Just needed a place to stay for one night, and found the Jardins do Porto at 613 Rua do Almada. It is a newly converted property with a wonderful staff, a vegan restaurant (I am not vegan, but the...
On the CF in 2015, I saw this trailer of dogs while enjoying my morning coffee...then for the next couple hours, I walked among hunters, dogs, and gun shots...I am certainly glad it was not peregrino season!
I lost 20 pounds when I walked from SJPP to Santiago in 2015. It gave me an idea for a new diet...walk 500 miles over 35 days, eat and drink whatever you want, and lose 20 pounds.
I guess you had to be there. There were a few pilgrims that arrived at roughly the same time, and we were marched in together and the nun pointed to each person, then pointed to a bunk. It wasn’t scientific at all, it was early in the day and the room was almost empty. I think she was just...
Good post domigee. I have nothing else to do at the moment either (except research my potential Camino Norte trip for hopefully next year). On the Frances in 2015, I also found myself needing air several times during the first few nights on the Camino, and actually played the 'open and close'...
yeah, apparently timing is everything! I stayed that night at the St Francisco de Asis donatavio. After a great meal, a few of us were asked if we wanted to walk up a hill (approx 20 minute walk) to see this church that was inside a mountain. We had no idea it was going to be open or that there...
Very thought provoking conversation. One of the highlights of my 2015 Camino was an opportunity to attend mass at Ermita Virgen de la Pena (Our Lady of the Crag) in Tosantos. Although it is usually locked and off limits to pilgrims, we were accompanied by a Catholic priest who was walking the...
Allow me to add my best wishes to Mr Sheen. I too originally learned about the Camino from The Way, and have watched it too many times to count. As I walked the Camino Frances in Oct 2015, I found joy in experiencing places that I had seen in the movie.
I saw this post last week, bought the book, and read it over a couple days....very enjoyable. I have read several books on the Camino since walking the Camino Frances from St. Jean to Santiago in October 2015. After a couple chapters, I found myself looking at my Brierley guidebook to follow...
Hi Chris. I started last year on 29 Sept and finished on 2 Nov. I took a sleeping bag and a silk liner. I never used the liner. It was cool enough most nights that the sleeping bag was a welcome addition.
Hi Joanne - if you still have the spreadsheet I would greatly appreciate a copy. I am beginning in late Sept. my email is layup5300@aol.com
