My sister and I were in Porto in April and saw where the Camino crossed through part of town (sort of near the airport.) They came one or two at a time, but quite spaced out. It occurred to us, that, wow, they probably don't even know they aren't the only pilgrims around. Perhaps if you're not...
Hi Sarah from NZ, I’m a married woman from California. My first (and BEST!) Camino was solo when I was fifty. The first pilgrim I met was a teenage guy from Germany, and the next was a thirty year old Italian woman. We ended up sharing a farmhouse room on the first night in StJPdP (which was...
Here's my revised CPAP blurb in English, which I then ran through Google Translate into Spanish and Portuguese to print the text in 3 languages on a single page. We don't have an extension cord, so I could not use the 12 meters (36 feet!) as in the original text from another post. Plus, I...
I’ve seen other posts where someone mentions they carried some written words to request an electrical outlet for their CPAP (medical equipment). Can someone please provide me with some examples of the wording used?
A girl gave me back my panties because my name was inside. Someone had taken hers, and we both had the same kind. She took the remaining panty off the line thinking it was hers. Then saw my name and just had to give them to me.
I've done the camino both ways--first time sola and second time with spouse. With spouse, we were more closed-off, less approachable. Our paces (and moods) were different, so it required constant adjustment. That was good, but going by myself was definitely the best--it left me more open to the...
I have Celiac Disease and am careful. I bought my backpack a little larger than necessary so I’d room to carry a free things. Some health food shops or grocery stores have a Dietetic section. Shop carefully to make sure your getting gluten free (and not sugar free by accident). Schar is a very...
My guess is that if you are expecting a certain emotional experience on the Camino, then that is what you will not get. Consider leaving expectations behind so that you are open to whatever the Camino teaches you. It might teach you that you don’t need watery releases to feel your emotions fully...
I take iPhone photos of each original container, making sure that for each Rx drug, they show my name, date of birth, the drug name and description, dosage, and prescribing physician. I create a Album called Travel and put the photos there so I can find them if I have to (I’ve never had to)...
I just returned a few days ago from Sarria to Santiago. From the USA, it took 2 days to get to Sarria and we started walking on the 3rd day. Due to a missed connection it also took us 2 days to get home (it should have taken 1 day). The first time I did the Camino I walked Sarria to Santiago...
Yes, thank you, that is our amiga Jane... how amazing is that???
The Canadian from California, the Italian, and the Englishwoman living in France are all reunited via this forum!!!! It's wonderful.
Thank you.
I agree with the others that said the walk from SJPP to Roncesvalles was very special. That was my favorite day of walking because of the challenge. And my favorite morning was in Roncesvalles being woken up by the "Alleluia" chant.
Spending your energy to learn Spanish as much as possible...
I'm back from the Camino now... I started May 10 from SJPP and ended in Santiago on June 8. Along the way, another friend and I met up with Jane Sunderland. But we never got her email and we're trying to connect up with her again now online. I thought she told me she is online on Facebook...
(Not that you can buy them, but since you have an interest in that area...)
When you're in Santiago de Compostela you might want to visit the museum of the Cathedral (it's accessed from Prazo Obradoiro) . There is an exhibit there with replicas of the instruments that the various figures carved...
I did the camino in May/June 2009 (this year). My boots were a pretty good fit, but even so I had numbness on the sides of my big toes about one third of the way between SJPP and Santiago. It sort of spread from there.
Once home (and no longer walking) I am careful to stretch and massage my...
.. but please be considerate of other pilgrims waiting for their showers (e.g., don't use more water or take more time than you would otherwise have taken)
Personally, I walked into the shower fully clothed (but pockets EMPTY!) and then stripped off, leaving the clothes to get wet & soapy as I...
My camino (May/June) was hugely spiritually significant for me, in ways that surprised me. I didn't have any expectations (or desire) for visions, etc., but I got one anyways. It was very powerful. And, as others have said in their responses, very personal, and not something I'm going to even...
Hi Ajda,
Prepare as much as you can, and then leave the rest to take care of itself. I did the Camino alone in May/June and everything was fine. As it happened, I teamed up with someone I met on the train from Bayonne to St. Jean Pied-de-Port, and we met a third person, and we all kept in...
I arrive in SJPP on 9 May afternoon and starting walking on Sunday, 10 May. Perhaps it will happen that we will meet up with each other.
Are you showing the Forum Badge? Mine is pinned on my backpack.
