Thought I would start a new thread about the practicalities of camping rather than add to the excellent info already posted in the tents thread. Here are my thoughts...

This is such a personal thing. I think this gets easier the more you do it because you get used to it and there are...
Interesting read to pass the time in lockdown:
Coronavirus lockdown: Welcome to the armchair tasting tour of Spanish wine

I liked the description of Galica:
"Galicia looks a bit like if...
The 'The Unlikely Pilgrims' documentary popped up in my Amazon Prime Video feed and with nothing better to watch I thought I would give it a go. This is a gritty, raw, and unromantic portrayal of the camino and it's not easy viewing at times. I don't want to criticise the project too much...
Hi All,
I'm lucky to live in central London so I have a overwhelming choice of places to learn beginner Spanish after work e.g.
The Cervantes Institute course is £325 per term + books, but the classes are 2.5 hours long !?! (this is the one people tend to recommend on camino forums)
Various...
For the history buffs on the forum - I was listening to the In Our Time podcast about Automata (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bk1c4d). 15 minutes in they talk briefly about medieval Christian automata, how common moving statues of Mary or Christ were, and how they worked with fish being...
Some travel notes about cycling Bayonne to Burgos via the Tunnel Route on a Brompton folding bike. This was part of a longer journey down VDLP to Tangier. The Brompton was great, I have the 6 gear version and changed the gears to make the hills slightly easier. I took the Brompton T bag on the...
Short/nice article on the Cicerone website which describes the central and coastal caminos from Porto:
https://www.cicerone.co.uk/camino-portugues-should-you-walk-the-central-or-coastal-camino-from-porto
Helpful if you want a summary of the two routes.
Whilst trying to navigate to the Chocolate Museum in Astorga (lovely place to visit) I saw "Peregrino Torture Tower" marked on Google Maps and was totally intrigued. Turned out to be the railway crossing! You can find it here: https://goo.gl/maps/xz4xwj9WDj82 along with 12 reviews. Made me...
A pilgrimage for cheese eaters?
"The Idiazábal Cheese Trail (GR-283) is a circular route for walkers, made up of 6 stages which offer some unbeatable walking in exceptional surroundings, at the same time as finding out about the whole cycle of producing Idiazábal cheese: the nature parks where...
I'm not planning on doing this but I'm curious to know if anyone has booked an extra seat on Ryanair for their rucksack? Had a search of the forum but didn't spot anything...
Nice/short account of cycling Via de la Plata (not as a pilgrimage). They make it sound quite tempting...

This isn't a pilgrimage route but it is in Spain so hopefully no one will mind too much about me posting this... Has anyone walked the Andalucian Coast-to-coast Walk and have an experience to share? Any other routes in the area that you would recommend as an alternative?
Author/Publisher...
"Every post office has a stamp for your Credencial, and many of them have special stamps we have designed with relevant monuments or events of that particular place. Thus, your Pilgrim's Passport will become the best of souvenirs of all the places you could see and visit on the Camino. Here you...
Browsing around Sports Pursuit and came across the Ho34L Backpack (Midnight Black). It's a good size for a camino, and I like the loop of the S zip and the pockets. However, I have lovely rucksack and really don't need another one, although that s zip is very tempting!

Building on the work of Rajy62 in this thread I’ve created a google sheet containing a list of sleeping bags, liners, quilts and blankets that are under 1kg which others might find useful.

Thought this photo was so wonderful I wanted to share:
"Every year, a week before the Christian feast of Corpus Christi, tens of thousands of pilgrims climb high into the Peruvian Andes where the Sinakara Valley hosts Qoyllur Rit'i - the Snow Star Festival. Held under a full moon, the...
Following all the discussion in this thread about jeans I feel that I should make a confession….
I walked in my jeans on the Camino Frances…
and I also took a Benetton wool cardigan with me…
I took stretchy cropped jeans that didn’t weigh too much, I took them because I had them (so didn’t...
Hi, has anyone visited the Petroglifos del Teleno (http://lasendadelhayedo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/visita-al-dios-teleno-cuaderno-de-viaje.html)? For someone with an interest in prehistory are they worth making a detour for to see? I think they are just south of Santa Colomba De Somoza near...
One of my most memorable late May/June Camino experiences was gazing at the Milky Way at night. This was possible because (as a cycling) pilgrim I took a bivvy bag and wild camped for a few nights. Chatting to other walking pilgrims who were staying only in albergues I realised that they would...
