    Transport from Santiago to Madrid

I bought my Ryanair flight for 25 euro. Iberia also flies Santiago to Madrid. Ryanair only has 3 flights a day so check your departure time in Madrid and buy the flight before the one that should her you there even if it means a night in Madrid which it does for me but better than missing my...

    Class of 2014

Hi Lucy! I'm getting to St Jean evening if the 4th and going to Roncesvalles on the 5th so hopefully we'll run into each other. Yes I'm getting so anxious and excited! Only a few days left!! :D Claudia

Anyone do round trip out of Madrid?

Ryanair or Iberia have very cheap flights to Madrid in half the time of a train. If you book with Ryan air you can opt for a 5€ shuttle from Santiago to the airport at time of booking.

LIVE from the Camino When your Camino doesn't go 'as planned'

Yes Kat keep us in the loop. I think we're all enjoying your posts. I agree with Al and whoever I read said the pics of your feet reminds them of the traveling gnome :D you could start a blog... Maybe something like Kat's Camino Adventures or Wrappy Feet or Gauze with the Wind or Singing in the...

LIVE from the Camino When your Camino doesn't go 'as planned'

Kat Alex is right you haven't failed at all. The other day I talked to a 70+ year old woman who said she had been wanting to do the camino since she was in her 20s but she never got around to it. You did it. You're there. Shit happens. It could happen to any of us so give yourself some slack and...

    medical insurance

I opted for the traveler's insurance offered with my plane ticket. It covers up to $50k in medical expenses. I haven't read the whole packet but I figured that was pretty good for the extra $60 added to my ticket. The company is Jefferson insurance and the medical coverage is under Global...

How Fit Were You at the Start?

If you're still not decided on boots take a look at the meindl women's hiking boots on cabelas.com. I ordered and tried most if the boots that were recommended at least if few times on the forum at least 6 pairs and I loved those the most they are soft leather goretex with great traction I feel...

How Fit Were You at the Start?

I think you'll be fine. I haven't really done any training and I'm leaving in 3 weeks. I walk to and from work everyday and was a runner in the past but I'm currently overweight and I'm not shaking in my boots. Im going to do some practice walks around 10-15 miles with my gear the next couple of...

Wow so many people are starting late August - Sept. Is anyone starting beginning of August or is everyone smarter than I am and trying to avoid getting heat stroke? :)

Ryan Air dep. Santiago to MAD arr. T1 at 9:20, Delta to US Depart 11:00 (T4), realistic?

That's a good option. I'm weary of going into the city knowing no Spanish and oversleeping in a comfy hotel. I thought I could just sleep at the gate to make sure I don't miss my flight but I guess that's not an option. Hmm I'll have to think about this one. Thanks!

CDG to Biarritz by EasyJet: enough time to make connection?

I am flying into Madrid and taking an alsa.es bus that goes directly from the Madrid airport to Pamplona. There I switch and hop on a bus to SJPP. Simple dimple I already bought my tickets online and they serve as boarding so that's all I need. Not trying to complicate myself with trains in...

Ryan Air dep. Santiago to MAD arr. T1 at 9:20, Delta to US Depart 11:00 (T4), realistic?

I'm in the same boat I thought it'd be cutting it too close so I opted for the Ryan air night flight giving me a night in Madrid before my flight back to the states in the morning. I didn't know if it was worth going into the city though and was thinking about just making one of those ridiculous...

Poll: Which iPhone Application is best for Camino Frances?

So far I downloaded the forum app - duh - an app in spanish called Pedi Relax that tells you where medical and pharmacies are near you on the camino - the Eroski app - the Wise Pilgrim app - and the TrekRight app - I guess I'll find out which ones are the best when I'm on the road :D

Poll: Which iPhone Application is best for Camino Frances?

How is it working for you - I've thought about doing this I downloaded a couple of paid apps but I'm not starting until August and I certainly do NOT want to be carrying a 300 page guidebook :D

Safety warning on Albergue Maribel Roncal in Cizur Menor

Oh I didn't mean you specifically -I meant whoever leaves at 10pm - I've read that a lot of other albergues also don't lock their doors but it's one entrance not as easy to escape as this one mentioned I guess - in any case this is disheartening - I don't want to feel like I need to look over my...

Safety warning on Albergue Maribel Roncal in Cizur Menor

I'm so confused as to why they don't put locks on the doors???? - isn't it better for people to knock after a certain hour than to put everyone else at risk? Just doesn't make sense to me and I don't think it has anything to do with being attached to material possessions. I'm bringing an iphone...

    Disappointed with my hiking shoes

Meindl boots are the best in my opinion! I out them on out if the box and they already felt broken in. I ordered 5 pairs of the most recommended boots off zappos including all the merrell versions Moab etc and non of them compared to the feel of the meindls I ordered off cabelas.com also from...
