What is your 2nd footwear item?

I used Sketchers Go Walk2 convertibles. https://www.skechers.com/en-us/style/13962/skechers-gowalk-2-convertible/CCAQ The heel of the shoe folds down flat so they are open at the back, if you like. Super lightweight. There are other convertible ones on the site that look a little more classy...

    Class of 2017

Long hard process to come to the conclusion that I will not be doing a second camino walk in 2017. :( I just can't justify the expense. I'm still in debt from last year's journey. My husband says that I shouldn't give up hope and that I should keep planning for it, but I can't see it working. So...

    Daily Camino preventative care

Here was my daily routine that I had figured out by the end of my walk. Two layers of socks and well-fitting shoes tied well. Breakfast including a nice big drink of water. Apply sunscreen and put hat on. Slow walking to start with to warm up the muscles (I did about 30 minutes slow walking...

    Ice Cream

Had a delicious strawberry ice cream in a little shop in Santander, but didn't run across ice cream much on del Norte. Coca-cola was my cold, sweet indulgence.

    Host gifts

I'm a glass worker, and made a bunch of shell shaped beads, and other random shapes and colours. :) Gotta get started on my next batch for 2017!!! :D

Are there are any parts of the Norte Stages that people consider dangerous ?

El Brusco was the only ugly climb, but with poles it was fine (and I'm out of shape, and carried a big pack). That was the only place that stood out to me as potentially dangerous (other than the highways). Just remember that fear is the mind killer, etc, etc, Duncan Idaho.

    Canada to Irun start

I flew from Regina to London Heathrow via Toronto, then took the train from London through Paris (transfer in Paris) to Irun. A long train ride (overnight), but helped me with my jetlag. I'm not sure I would do that again, but it was a thrilling adventure to spend the night in the train, going...

New to Camino, any suggestions for the best route for geology?

The flysch cliffs of the Norte are beautiful. Take the GR alternate route after Zumaia for the best look at them along the coast (I can't remember the number of the GR route, but any tourist office will have tons of info for you.) Here's one of my photos from this past July.

    Class of 2017

Considering a second Camino. July/Aug 2017. I don't know if I'll do del Norte again, or go the Portugese coastal route. Still deciding. :)

    Camino Angels

Walked my Camino this July. After a long, hot, difficult first week of walking (waaaaaayyyyy too much for my out-of-shape body), I made it to Bilbao. There was a huge music festival going on. I learned from the tourist info people that there was no accommodation left in the city. Everything was...

What's the Difference between a Pilgrimage and a Long Walk?

Ambrose Bierce's definition of Pilgrim was quoted in Phil Cousineau's book "The Art of Pilgrimage" as being "a traveler that is taken seriously". :p:D (Honestly, I like this thread. Muchas gracias, Rob!)

Pilgrim, were you injured on your 500 miles??

That song always makes me think of this beer ad... :D :D :D

    Norte in July

Okay, plans have changed slightly... train connections are the motivation to change my mind, and I'm starting to freak out a bit about my lack of physical training, too. I ended up buying a train ticket to get from London to Irun. I'm kind of on the fence about catching a bus to get to SJPdP...

What is a good book to read about a journey on the Camino?

I'm re-reading "The Lord of the Rings" - Frodo's journey will make mine (eeek, three weeks away!) look like a walk in the park! :D :D :D ;)

What Do You Do When You Are Not Walking?

I wish my highschool history teacher had been as cool as you... mine was the stereotypical 'blah-blah-blah'er with a voice like a duck.

Camino del Norte - start in Saint Jean, Irun, or San Sebastian?

I'll be walking the Norte this summer, starting from SJPdP. Just feel it is right for me. Whichever way you go, buen camino!
