What did you do/Where did you go after your Camino?

1st Camino (Frances): Porto, then Fatima. Flew out of Lisbon. Second Camino (Portuguese): Madrid, then Paris. After going half-way across the world, why not?

How To Recognize a Fellow Forum Member While On Camino

You will see other dark blue patches with yellow arrows on the Camino. We'll call out to those passing us (we're slow!) and often a nice conversation will ensue even when it's not a Forum patch. We also have Texas patches and that generates lots of comments as usually the first question asked...

How To Recognize a Fellow Forum Member While On Camino

Us neither - during 2 Caminos. However, we have had ex-pilgrims recognize the arrow on the patch in airports or by non-walkers when we were walking on Caminos, especially on the Portuguese where we were virtually the only pilgrims. We also have had comments on the shell on our daypacks on...

    Portuguese Coastal - route ok?

Why skip the walk out of Porto? It was lovely.

CP October - rain pants needed?

LOL! Me too! I once went to Mass with them on when clothes were being washed. Had all underwear also being washed. A strange feeling. We had a couple of weeks in early December after our last Camino and the rain jacket definitely helped with the cold.

CP October - rain pants needed?

We walked from Lisbon to Santiago last October (mid October-end of November). I had Marmot rain pants and jacket and was glad we took. The ones with the full leg zipper were the eariest to quickly put on over shoes (but do add a little weight with the zipper). One was was a downpour with...

    VdLP scenery?

Laurie, I'm not seeing anything on the VDLP from this spring, only from 2013.

    Free house-sitting

Will definitely look at that for our "next" Camino! We had house sitters for our first on the Frances, but couldn't find anyone for the second (Portuguese). We use an online house sitter site.

Camino Portugues - Pros and Cons of starting from Lisbon

Last fall we walked all the way out of Lisbon. It was a delightful walk after you passed the Lisbon suburbs. Yes, there is lots of road walking from Lisbon to Porto, but it was manageable. Same with walking out of Porto - a lovely walk along the river, then up the coast.

    Last 100 km?

We used A Guarda as the 100 km point (basicaly upon entering Spain). Although we started from Lisbon, a couple of times we resorted to the bus when sick or blistered and didn't want to make that mistake within the 100 kms. We also didn't know how taking the ferry across to A Guarda affected...

Best transportation from Santiago to Lisbon?

We bussed to Porto and stayed 2 days, then to Fatima and later to Lisbon. It was a short walk to the Center of Fatima from the bus station. Easy peasy. We took a taxi in Santiago to the bus station. It was uphill and I was so done with climbing!

    Blogging from the Camino

I never could master Word Press. I've used Travelblog.org (formerly Travelpod) for 2 Caminos.

Travelling from Tomar to Fatima on 13th May 2018

An easy and cheap bus ride. Drops you a short walk from the sanctuary.

Anyone use Hoka One One shoes?

Love, love, loved them. After Keens on the Frances I used them on the Portuguese, and they were great on the cobblestones. Yes, they have thick soles, but if you look inside the shoe you will see that the foot bed sits low in the shoe, providing lots of stability (my balance is not the best)...

    Remote working while walking

I have an internet business and have worked during 2 Caminos. It takes about an hour a day, less on weekends, and I would take care of business when I arrived or in the evening. This work funds my Caminos! And besides I like it. Seriously, it takes no more time than blogging evey day, which...

    Train from Santiago to Madrid

Loved the train - a nice relaxing trip. I guess you could call it boring, but for us it was less hectic than getting to and from airports. I caught up on my blog; my husband slept. We did book it at the last minute, but that was the end of November. I don't know if that's busy season or not...

My first camino april/may Lisbon to Santiago

Be sure to allow 2 or 3 days in Porto!

    SIM cards in Lisbon airport?

It was last October. Maybe there are different plans. We relied on what they told us and assumed it would work country to country. Or maybe it's just a problem with Portuguese numbers (someone in Spain told us that) and not a problem to call Portugal with a Spanish SIM. I don't recall that...

    Camino Portugues

Walked the Coastal (actually the Litoral) all the way to Redondela where it joins the Coastal and loved it. After the first few days out of Porto you get out of the resort areas. We also would recommend walking out of Porto along the river and not skipping to Matosinhos. It's a lovely walk...
