    Spiritual Journey

Aren't you blessed to walk this lovely Camino as a Catholic....it has a special meaning for us. It's our history. My first Camino (2015), during the harder walks, I identified "Mea Culpa Mountains". I said a special prayer for people I had wronged -- hurt or been insensitive to. My...

Early stage via frangenia planning: quickfire questions

Good for you! We walked the VF in August of 2016 -- celebrating the Jubilee of Mercy in Rome. Lucca to Rome. It is a beautiful walk -- but we missed the camaraderie of other pilgrims along the way....we probably saw 6 (and I thought it would be a flood due to the Holy Year). Our most...

Catholic Mass in Fromista - 6 pm

We've been having trouble finding out when Catholic Mass is held in the little towns on the Camino Frances. There is an evening Mass in Fromista at their amazing church that starts at 6 pm. The literature says the church has been deconsecrated -- but that's not the case. Sadly, our hotel...

    See you in Burgos!

We're hop skipping around a bit. Will be in Santiago on May 7 and May 8. Maybe you'll be there then? Ning

    See you in Burgos!

What a lovely way to start your Camino! Are you spending time with the Monks at Santo Domingo? I had forgotten how small these lovely Camino towns are....how I wish I could attend Mass every day. Perhaps we will run into each other. We'll be in Fromista tonight -- April 18.

What to do with aggressive dogs

I LOVED this! Learn a little "Doggie Spanish". I know that some writers have written of "numerous" aggressive dogs on the Camino, but all of the (HUGE) farm dogs we've seen have been amazingly calm and passive. We don't try to pet them or anything like that. In fact, we looked at them with a...

Leaving on my first Camino in the morning & I'm terrified. Please help!

I totally agree! Don't overdo it in the beginning -- both the Valcarlos and Pyrenees routes are beautiful but tough. There is nothing wrong with having your pack transported -- it might mean the difference between being able to do the Camino and not. We're on the Frances Route now...

What Is The Most Useful & Usless Item You Packed

I do I downloaded an audio Rosary n my phone...also listened to Podcast homilies from my Church back home. Made a special music list downoaded from Spotify - one inspirational and energetic (think Mandisa!) and another meditative...Chant. We kept a blog - used a laptop - but a small diary...

    See you in Burgos!

We’ll see you all in Spain as we walk our favorite section of the Camino Frances - Burgos to Sarria. We were blessed by our Parish Priest yesterday as we begin our pilgrimage from home - Bay St Louis, Mississippi - even if the walking begins in Burgos. We step out on April 16 and finish May...

    Valcarlos or Orisson?

I agree! Pamplona is a lovely place to start - and avoiding those (very tough - either route) mountains does not affect the quality if your Camino. It was agony to watch pilgrims with knee problems struggle after doing the Pyrenees. You’ll also get stunning views in O’Cebriero...later, after...

Pack is too large for carry-on

Dear Jen - welcome to the Camino! All of us can relate to that feeling, “If I pay attention to every detail, this huge endeavor will be less scary...”. And then, the day comes - you take those first strides...you notice other pilgrims, take a deep breath and start living in that moment...

    SJPDP Credencial Question -

The lovely stamps are part of the joy and adventure of the Camino. When we started from SJPP we were “stamp happy”... ended up with two passports ... but we still cherish the reminders. When we walked the Via Francigena in Italy, most of our stamps were from churches. We’d often end up in the...

    Why not "donate"

Ivar does a terrific job - we’re happy contributors! Just like we always stop and buy something from the cafes and pop up vendors while walking the Camino. It’s part of giving back to an amazing country...

    Pondering

April - oh yes! We’re starting in Burgos near April 16th, too. Maybe we’ll see you - how wonderful! My husband and I walked the complete Frances in 2015 as we began retirement...we’re doing Burgos to Sarria next year. Maybe we’ll all have a glaas of wine together... Ning
