Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

Tia - My first Camino was road biking, we were two couples. I plan to do it again on a MTB, using much of the path, but leaving it in places for multiple reasons. I have no plans to do the CI, and was just trying to provide info in response to Jo's question. Street view shows those segments...

    Sunday Evening in Logrono

Well - I just did some searching and have a partial answer, and it turns out that we were fooled along with the storks. Below is the text that went with the photo. Perhaps the city fathers decided that they had already attracted a sufficient number of storks. "Stork Nest. Artificial in a...

    Sunday Evening in Logrono

It seems a lot of people put Logrono down as being an uninteresting, industrial, "blue collar" kind of city, or even try NOT to spend a night there. I've always maintained that I could easily amuse myself for at least a weekend in ANY city of reasonable size. Every city has parks, museums...

    Cycling el Frances in June

And that's being generous ;-) I've always admired Michelin maps, first because they do an excellent job of visually organizing the information for maximum clarity. I also like that they show the graphic size and shape of settled areas, vs. a generic dot on the map. The Jakobs-Radweg maps...

starting camino portugese on feb 17th- worries

I don't know if this route follows the green path, could you verify that? http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033581 If it doesn't, is there any documentation of it on the web? No, I was just trying to help. I know that the different Caminos arrive in Santiago from different directions...

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

Would you know just where the 19% was - nothing I saw in street-view looked that steep.

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

I had been looking for "Bruma" as the name on the map, and only later noticed that there was a Montes and Hospital "de Bruma". A large part of the difficulty is that there seems to be a different place name every 300 meters in Galicia.

    Sunday Evening in Logrono

From my Logrono notes: "Anna and I dined on a street with some 30 tapas bars occupying every storefront. We started at a place which only served mushrooms (one of our favorites), sauteed in butter and garlic, stacked in 3 with a toothpick and a small shrimp, then planted on top of a slice of...

starting camino portugese on feb 17th- worries

Diogo92 said "Just don't forget that there are two ways to enter in Santiago via the Caminho Portugês". However, OSM Outdoors only shows one, so that's what I used. I don't know where the signage begins to get poor, but perhaps you can print off hardcopy of the relevant segments. There are...

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

I routed to and from the albergues when I could find them, but they aren't always marked on the OSM Outdoors map. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033448 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033486 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033521 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033581...

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

hola, Jo - Here is Pontedeume to Betanzos. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7033071 Sabine's link made the initial climb look longer and tougher than it actually seems to be (said from the perspective of not having to walk it ;-) - about one mile total, with the middle two tenths at around 13% -...

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

This is 9/10 of a mile after Julia, and it has just quickly increased from 10 to 15%, and you can see that it is still steeper ahead. This is also where the camera car decided to turn around.

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

Thanks for the info Castilian - I used the OSM Outdoors map as it displays the Camino route. You can select from multiple map (and satellite) backgrounds in the upper right corner. Unlike at Mino, I was able to snap to the Camino here, eliminating the need to draw lots of very short lines...

Gradient of climb out of Betanzos?

Jo - I have a method that could provide this info, but you will need to do some work. Go to the RideWithGPS site and select Plan. You will need a starting point, and it recognized Mino, Spain for me. When it asks if you want that as your starting point, say no, and then find where on the map...

    Alternate route into Burgos

Although my group cycled the river route (from Cardenajimeno) and greatly enjoyed it, I'm a fan of urban industrial architecture, so can easily appreciate Jeff's experience. Following up on it - and outside Jeff's socio-economic perspective, I often find industrial structures visually...

    Hazards

    > "it seemed the temperature never broke 32C (90F)" There's the difference Mark - I consider anything over 70 hot ;-) I went in early June previously, and although it was sometimes over 70, it was indeed a dry heat, so manageable for me. Also, I'm certain that cycling vs. walking helps in...

Branching out from the Brierley guidebook

I thought it was clear that was meant to be taken lightly - I must have forgotten to add a smiley face to make it obvious. (I can't hope to match you there ;-)
