"There are, of course, other factors that play into the challenging nature of a walk. Tough footing can make a walk much more tiring, for example. "
And therein, you answer your own question. Kudos for an interesting and ambitious statistical analysis...but the subjective experience will always...
I suspect the 'average' advice is "wear what you know and are comfortable with". Walking when you are, it will most likely be hot and dry (and probably has been for a while) and most of the Way will be a mix of surfaces. I have always worn ventilated trail runners, on many Caminos at different...
Disappointing indeed, but the Way will be waiting for us! Another Camino site is indicating increasing closures of albergues etc and recommending that pilgrims hold off for at least two months. I still intend to wander around in the North later this year and Lana next Spring:):):):):)🙃🙂
I would not walk without them...just not necessarily the product promoted:). If I walk uphill, I like to shorten the pole (hand down the shaft). If I walk downhill,I will lengthen the pole (hand on the top of the pole). I buy the product that suits my needs. OK, I have to add...I have walked...
Interesting....but as I look at this, I realize that I would not be happy with the 'fixed grip'. I have a light connection with the pole and will always walk with a pole that has a 'shaft' so that I can alter my hand position. I would not choose these.
I haven't bought cheap poles...and 'rare'...
Oh dear, I never realized there was a difference. I like poles that don't collapse on me when I have to put my weight on them when I am crossing rough ground (or a stream)...that I do know. And I do like those that either fit into my pack or don't protrude too far beyond it (I check my bag in...
If you lose it, it is impossible to replace en Camino (I know). I wandered up the Camino Francés last year...and already it was admired and appreciated in the laundry at Roncesvalles. All bowls etc were in use...but the plug allowed me to use a vacant sink. The biggie for me is being able to...
Decisions!! Given all the upheavals re Covid-19, I had kinda sorta deferred the Lana to next Spring and I would walk Caminos Olvidado/Invierno starting in late August and Alicante to Burgos next year. My concerns are not health-related, it is just the uncertainty around travel arrangements etc...
The downside is that most albergues impose a curfew and are usually quiet by 10:00PM. Not so hotels and hostales. It is a win on one hand and a loss on the other but oh the joys of sheets, towels and a private bathroom:D:D:D
After having listened to several versions, this was the one I used to set my original slide show (first Camino, 2009) to. Presented as a meditation, the simplicity and clarity of this performance was ideal.
I believe his wife was also deathly ill at the time. I find it astonishing that such beauty can arise out of such blackness....and the Concierto ends so triumphantly.
I really can't speak too much to your situation. I am a very close neighbour (2 miles or so north of the 49th) and travel insurance rates triple for me if I am going to wander south of the 49th. I suspect you have to do your own due diligence. Medical costs in Spain are very reasonable (24 hours...
Heehee...the only 'reverse camino' I have walked was from Santiago de Compostela to Lavacolla. It is HARD. Unless you have definite signage, you have to stand in the middle of every crossroad and visualize how you would interpret the waymarks if you were coming from the 'right' direction. Once...
This is my music...the Beall performance is MY preferred interpretation. The Ajic performance...the rubato sounds more like hesitation. This is not a difficult piece so the simpler the better sez I. I LOVE this music...but please, do not blast it from your speakers on the camino. To add...the...
