It has been difficult. We're sorry for your situation. When we realized we weren't going to make it to Europe, we decided to try a different walk and opted for The PEI Island Walk - islandwalk.ca. We're just back and can tell you, PEI is a safe place, a beautiful place and offers a great walk!
At 75 and 64, we made a pact that if we got through this whole mess unscathed, we would walk the CF from St Jean over 40 days. Our daughter and grand daughter have agreed to join us at Astorga, so June-July three generations on the camino. Fingers crossed!
Donovan, Good to know about the cycle track, thanks. We hear repeatedly that maps.me is a good option for offline use, especially with reports that the official vf app tends to crash.
Caminka, this is brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to put it together. Not at all put off, knowing what to expect and thereby better able to plan, lessens any anxieties.
Omar, thanks for the clarification. In my case, more aptly height vertigo or the sensation of dizziness triggered by heights - frighteningly real, you're doubtless aware, and I'd add a bit risky walking along steep edges. Most of us who live with it understand the simpler vertigo.
Jenny, thanks for posting. I've definitely made note of this section! Alternative walking routes, in particular for folks living with vertigo are hardly mentioned. I have yet to see it included in any guidebook (we have both the Terro di Mezzo and Lightfoot). The idea of snagging a cycle map ...
Kazrobo, thanks for this. In my experience, folks who don't live with vertigo don't get it. So, it is about what I can accomplish. I'll be looking for options for this section.
Hello and Happy New Year fellow trekkers! Aiming to walk some or all of the Italian section, we have a question, please. If one lives with severe vertigo, which sections would be a problem; or, do any/all 'lofty' bits have alternative routes? Thx!
Thanks Albertinho! Self professed 'slow strollers' and aiming to avoid any real climbs, we've earmarked 14-16 days and mirror your suggestions as potential 'rest days'. On the CP, we'll consider the option to cross to the central earlier, mostly as a contingency in case of weather. And, we'll...
We'll be on the Portugues, mid September to mid October, aiming to walk a 'surf n turf' from Porto with a mix of the Senda/Coastal to Caminha crossing to Valenca, up to Santiago and on to Finisterre. With a month we've plenty of time to walk shorter stages and take rest days, and there looks to...
This sounds fascinating. A fan of incorporating practicality into university level courses, we'd suggest something about walking and health - motivation to improve both physical and mental health. And, walking as slow travel - opportunity to connect with local life and culture.
Glad to see this. A Canadian, my bank (Scotia) also has an alliance with Deutchebank. Theoretically we too can use a debit card at any Deutschebank branch or ATM, without fee. Remembering to stick to ATMs attached to an open bank is always a good reminder! Thanks
I came across more information on strikes in Spain http://www.easytravelreport.com/ elsewhere, and other than this thread, don't see them (apologies if cross-posting). I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this/these and what one might expect?
I just came across an article on a festival, the feast of San Froilan or Las Cantaderas, which looks to take place in Leon from October 5-12, 2015. We should be close enough to experience this, but do we want to? Does anyone know more about this and/or other festivals we might want to...
