    VIRTUAL Camino Francés

Today I'm 42.2 km into my Virtual Camino. I should be pulling into Zubiri tomorrow. I will celebrate by making a jug of Sangria because that's what I remember doing when we were there 4 years ago.

    VIRTUAL Camino Francés

Love it! I did the Camino in 2016 as well, left on April 25, 2016, so on that date this year, I started doing a daily walk at home and thought I'd keep track of my kms with a goal of "Walking the Camino" once again. Does anyone know if there's a online map that allows to you track your kms as...

    Women: Advice on trail runners/shoes

I walked the Camino in 2016 wearing Saucony Peregrine 5's. I had two pairs (and some flip flops), mainly because they aren't waterproof and I wanted a back up pair, so I switched them every day. They are quite light but my hubby carried them (an extra pound) so that was nice. :) Anyway, they...

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

I agree, and yet it's funny, some things I brought, although I suspected I may not have needed them, and yet was happy I had them, and other things I thought I'd want, I wouldn't take again. You never know until you're done and everyone is different so even someone else's opinion may not be...

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

I agree if you're staying in albergues, that could be an issue. We didn't stay in too many so it wasn't a huge concern for us.

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

I truly don't think it's always a vanity thing. I need my hair to be dry because I got chilled when it was wet and then I could not warm up. I think it was because I had been exercising all day. What brand did you buy and how much does it weigh?

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

I'd like to chime in with a yes, take a hair dryer if you can find a light one and you feel like carrying it. I didn't have one but I will definitely take one next time. I walked from Apr 25 - Jun 2 and the weather was decent but after a long day, I was sweaty and dirty and needed a shower so...

    Phone around the neck

I had a lightweight waterproof phone 'case' that had a clip and a long cord. I clipped it to the waistband of my backpack and it just hung there, within easy grasp but not in my way. It also had a cord (not shown in the photo below) that I looped through my pack as well so I didn't lose it...

Walking sticks confiscated at Bilbao airport

I'm curious about why so many people carry on their backpacks? Why not just check them?

    Question about Sellos

I made sure to get one in a Farmacia as well since they were such an integral part of our walk. :) The pharmacist was quite intrigued with our credencial which had stamps all the way from St Jean and she called out another employee to take a look at all the stamps.

    Accomodation...or lack of

Edited!!! We stayed in Foncebadon which is NOT 2.5 km before o Cebreiro. ---- Sorry I was thinking about Cruz de Ferro. Blame it on Camino brain and tomorrow's impending arrival in Santiago. :) Right before O Cebreiro we stayed in Laguna de Castilla at Albergue la Escuela. Also only a few km...

    Ridiculous new routes into Portomarín

Thanks for the warning. We took the old route and all was well.

    Accomodation...or lack of

1700+ pilgrims arrived in yesterday (Friday). Im glad I will be arriving next Thursday as weekdays seem to have under 1000 per day.

    Compostela question

Thank you! I tried unsuccessfully to search for this info. :)

    Compostela question

When arriving in Santiago, my understanding is that you only get a Compostela (in Latin) if you are doing the Camino for religious reasons. Otherwise, you get a certificate in English. Is this correct? And if so, do you get both at the pilgrim's office? Thanks for the clarification.

    Accomodation...or lack of

We didn't have too much trouble finding a place in the first week. It didn't start getting busy until a little later on. But with any luck, we are in the midst of a large group and you are behind it. Fingers crossed that it stays that way for you!

    Etiquette question of the day...

Was it the Freshette or another brand? I didn't have any trouble even the first time I used it.

    Etiquette question of the day...

Especially true on the Meseta where it can be 2-3 hours between towns. Ladies - I bought a Freshette which allows me to pee standing up with very minimal clothing adjustment. I love it! There are many other brands out there but that's the one I have. It folds up fairly small and comes with a...

List your pilgrim blog URL Here - we want to read your story

I didn't know there was a thread for this. Erik and I are walking right now. April 25 - June 2, 2016. I am blogging every day family and friends. It's tough to do on an iphone and poor wifi, especially with photos, but so far I'm managing. http://kelownagurl.com

    Accomodation...or lack of

We left SJPDP on April 25 and will be in Leon tomorrow (May 18). We've been booking A double room in private albergues, small hotels, or pensions since we started. At first we booked 1-2 days ahead, then found it hard to find a room in smaller towns so started booking 3-5 days ahead. We've had...
