Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

Switchback = Lacets, one of my favorite French words. Lacets = shoelaces

    Vegan on the Camino!

Yeah, the overcooked pasta with a can of tomato sauce thrown on top can get pretty tiresome. I felt malnourished by the time I finished walking the first time. On the second trek, I used the lists that have been posted of vegetarian friendly places.

    Getting into Paris from CDG?

Then, of course, there's always the cheapest, slowest, "scenic" route... City bus #351 to Nation. It winds through the east side of Paris eventually ending up at Nation. From there you can catch the Metro line #6 (Direction: Charles de Gaulle Etoile) to Montparnasse. Around 80 minutes + 3...

May 1 Hendaye to Bayonne Bus?

I think taxis are always available... but, have you ever heard of www.Blablacar.fr? It's a ridesharing service. Usually people don't post until less than 2 weeks before the ride, so you basically have to wait until the last minute. There are also trains that run from Hendaye to Bayonne that...

    London to Le Puy

Bonjour Liz... I'm not sure about flying from Australia, but I've found flying into Barcelona (BCN) to be the least expensive route. You may want to check it out? There are cheap flights from BCN to Lyon (LYS) via Easyjet. Bon chemin!

    5-10km/day pilgrims

My favorite resource for planning: https://godesalco.com/plan/frances. The first step is to choose where you want to start and end your camino. The second page shows you distances between each village and what type of accommodations are available. When you've planned it all out, you can...

May 1 Hendaye to Bayonne Bus?

Sadly, no. "Les jours fériés, la ligne 816 circule comme le dimanche. Ne circule pas les 25 décembre, 1er janvier et 1er mai."

    Injury Fractured knee cap?

Broke my knee cap on 26 Nov 2015 ("star" break). Doc put me on bedrest for 5 weeks. Told Doc that I already had my airline tickets for a camino walk in late April. He said no prob. Wore a leg brace if I had to move around, just in case. Went back for a check up at 5 weeks. All healed. Once I...

Getting from Bilbao airport to Irun to start walking on the same day

You have a couple of options: 1. Start your walk in Bilbao. It's a great city with lots of active people running, riding bikes, walking with families. Stayed in a clean youth hostel there. It's easy to find the route - actually there are two routes out of town: over the mountain or along...

    More accommodation questions

When I stayed here, I had a room all to myself with my own bathroom.

Camino Le Puy ending in SJPDP - anticlimactic?

I love ending in SJPdP! As you arrive you enter through the arch and it felt like a wonderful accomplishment. After that experience, I felt the arrival into SdC was anti-climatic. No adorable archway, just a long haul to the Cathedral. That said... most French walkers end in Roncevalles.

Silly me, wanting to fall in love on the Camino

Think you're missing out not walking in France... After all, if I remember correctly, one girl with which you clicked was French, right? The Le Puy route is amazing and not to be missed. Just a thought...

Silly me, wanting to fall in love on the Camino

Dude... Sorry you still haven't found "her". I am just happy to know you're still alive!!! Haven't seen any posts from you for ages! I wrongly assumed it was because you had found someone and had moved on. When's your next trek? Maybe it'll be the magical one.

    Need a new waist pack

I've always used a waist pack. I was shocked when I actually weighed my go-to empty waist pack to find that it weighed a kilo! Picked this one up for my last trip. I like that it's lightweight and stretches to accommodate various objects, but they must be in a plastic ziplock if they're paper...

    Vegan on the Camino!

My best find, Amanecer in Villarmentero de Campos. Not too impressive lodgings from the street, but the best vegetarian meal I had in Spain. The food just kept on coming - I compared it to Thanksgiving dinner in my blog.

Le Cele variant advice needed !

I walked the Cele the first week of September (2017). From Cabrerets, I walked to Conduche, by-passing Bouzies. There is an old train station there that has been converted into a restaurant. You can access the old train rails from the back terrace. I followed the rails back towards Bouzies, but...

    Backpack weight

On my last walk, I realized how heavy my empty waist pack was. I found this at Carrefour in Paris and will be giving it a try this next walk. I've tested it out on my practice walks and so far so good. Looks like you can buy it just about anywhere...
