Change train in Ourense from Madrid to Sarria

I agree with J Wilhaus. We have often taken a flight from DC that arrives at about 6AM. Sometimes we have been at our hotel in Madrid to sleep by 8AM, but the last time our flight arrived with eight other flights and there was no one in immigration control. We arrived at our hotel about 10:30...

What are your favorite Camino misspellings on the forum?

My husband's sister taught Italian at a university and spoke Sicilian as well. When my son was in middle school he wrote a term paper and asked her whether to use panino or panini. She told him that while panino was correct in the context in which he was using the word he could use panini as...

    My own socks test

Darn Tough socks are my favorite socks- they also have a lifetime guarantee so you can return them for a new pair anytime.

What are your favorite Camino misspellings on the forum?

I always use my given name Patricia because Pat sounds like Pot to me when in Spain. (Patti sounds even worse!) 😊 🥾

    Rip off Restaurant

You have been here in the US for a month and are still eating at Denny's?? Haven't eaten there in decades, and also avoid IHOP. Look for local mom and pop restaurants for breakfast.

The one thing I should have done before I left for the Camino

In addition to the above we also carry a notarized letter with our passports in English and in Spanish detailing what we want done with our remains in the unfortunate and hopefully unlikely event that we die in Spain. Without that information for the authorities you could potentially be buried...

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

I would pay more for the compostela-10 euros compared to prices for everything else now would not be excessive. When we first returned to Spain in 2015 and I used the ladies (am I allowed to say that) bathroom in the Chamartin Station I gagged because of how awful they were. Two years ago and...

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

Female walkers can do without "these ridiculous devices" if they wish or not. There is also clothing that we can wear that unzips. I prefer the trousers, but I understand that there are leggings that have the same function. I think we each have to find our own way to deal with natures' call...

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

I'll use my SheFly pants before I try using something like that, I can't imagine not making a mess, but thanks. 😊 🥾

    Train question

The Renfe site has an option to change the language to English or French as well as other commonly spoken languages in Spain. I have never had a problem with navigating their site. Renfe however does not like my US credit/debit cards so I just process the transaction through Paypal. Easy peasy!!

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

Thank you, that is exactly what I thought. I need data and texts but calls I can do wifi calls and zoom with family and not have to pay per minute. WhatsApp should also work. Guess I have to get serious about switching!!

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

Is T-Mobile free to call home to the US? I have been looking to switch from AT&T which charges $10/day for 10 days per billing period. I looked into T-Mobile and I understood that unlimited data would carry over, but calls would cost per minute. If not, I need to look again because I thought I...

    Shower/bathroom etiquette in the albergues?

I am lucky if I get my husband in the house before he strips (after working in the barn on the diesel tractor), but we have no neighbors for over a mile from our house! We have to remodel our bathroom so the old claw foot tub is going on the deck for soaking!!

    Local Travel Agency?

Our first camino was the last 100 from Sarria with CaminoWays. Our second was the Primitivo planned by ourselves- the price of the entire Primitivo for two was less than half of what it cost for the last 100. That was with staying inn private accommodation on the Primitivo as well.

Inviting reflections on the wider costs of walking a Camino

Nonetheless, if used appropriately, offsets can be a useful tool in the fight against global warming. Note that the website said that offsets can be a useful tool- not that they state that offsets are actually a useful tool to truly offset emissions. Until someone can show me that sending...

Inviting reflections on the wider costs of walking a Camino

I still think this scheme is like buying indulgences- or throwing money into a fire. Unless I can absolutely verify that my hard earned dollar is actually going to help offset emissions I will stick helping people locally with immediate needs.

Inviting reflections on the wider costs of walking a Camino

It appears that you are relying on someone else to lower their emissions so you can increase yours to fly. Seems to me to be a lot of room for scams. From the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Climate Portal: Although carbon offsets have appealing benefits, it is important to keep in mind...
