Paris to Biarritz/Bayonne: Cost of train vs flight

But she said she's spending 2 days in Paris staying near Montparnasse! No matter, I think we've ably demonstrated there's not much in it ;)

Paris to Biarritz/Bayonne: Cost of train vs flight

90% agree @t2andreo only caveat is that this journey must pass through pretty much the worst scenery in France, pancake flat and nothing but fields for the vast majority of the journey. In the interest of full disclosure I should probably also say that I find Gare Montparnasse incredibly...

Paris to Biarritz/Bayonne: Cost of train vs flight

The train doesn't take 5 hours to get to Biarritz, it's 4hr 20min, I should know I'm on it now! But anyway...you want to get off at Bayonne not Biarritz for the connecting train to SJPdP and that comes sooner. It's 4hr 05min to Bayonne. If you're already near Montparnasse at the start of your...

Paris to Biarritz/Bayonne: Cost of train vs flight

3 months time will be Christmas which I'm guessing is why the prices are crazy. Still it's fair to assume June will be a bit more expensive than late September. BTW as I recall a standard class ticket was around 40-45 Euros.

Paris to Biarritz/Bayonne: Cost of train vs flight

Hi @joanne Funnily enough I'll be on that very train in about 4 hours! Booking ahead (June) it cost me 55 euro for a first class ticket! Buenos Camino, Rob.

Starting French Camino 26 Sept 2019

Just about to head into London to catch the Eurostar. Staying at Gite de la Port St Jaques and heading out first thing with a very red Lowe Alpine backpack. Hope to catch up with some of you as I crawl up the mountain. Buen Camino, Rob.

    Holy Year

@t2andreo Because I'm too lazy to check and I suspect others may be interested could you let me know if there are any specific qualifications for working in the pilgrim office, for example do you have to be a fluent Spanish speaker?

    Carry-on Size Backpack

The wireframe portion of my Lowe Alpine Airzone Pro 45:55 comes in at bang on 56cm so maybe worth considering. I've always found that as long as that fits you can squish the rest of the pack in. Also assuming your bag isn't 100% full and you're able to position it somewhat diagonally in the...

    Holy Year

If you look at the jump in numbers from 2009 to 2010 - 145,000 going up to 273,000, almost a doubling, it's pretty terrifying to speculate what the jump from 327,000 may be, 600,000+? However as the increase in pilgrim numbers in recent years has largely been amongst the secular community it is...

    Carry-on Size Backpack

Wow, that's a great deal @hieudovan congrats! What size is your current backpack? I've got 45:55 litre pack with a wire frame running the length of the 45 litre section and that qualifies as hand luggage on all but the meanest of short haul fights. I'd suggest that if your pack is bigger than...

    May & June

I walked in May 2015 and loved it. Beautiful cool sunrises and warm days, wind rippling through the wheat fields, absolutely fantastic. Didn't have a single day of rain though others haven't been so lucky at this time of year. Never booked ahead and despite being a group of four only once had to...

    Efren, vlog, camera equipment

Efren's is one of the best but a few more to look for in no particular (well actually alphabetical) order are; Chica and Sunsets- Husband and wife team. Hank Leukart- Just one video but I thought very good. Incidentally his Neverending NZ story is great too. I'll Get There- is one currently in...

Is it possible to pay for a meal at an albergue you're not staying at?

Well it's possible they just didn't like the look of me and introduced a temporary byelaw  This was in 2017. I can confirm that I am yet to have a bishopric bestowed upon me.

Is it possible to pay for a meal at an albergue you're not staying at?

There's also the issue of security. Some albergues, the CSJ run albergue in Rabanal springs to mind, won't allow any non-resident to enter their albergue, even if you have friends staying there who will vouch for you.

    'Edit' gone AWOL?

Weird. I'm on Windows 10 and Firefox and can edit my post from 5 mins ago but not one in the same thread from yesterday.

    Beilari evening meal

Thanks for the inside information @josephmcclain , much appreciated! Could you tell me at roughly what time the meal usually ends so I can get an idea of how much of it I would be missing? Thanks, Rob.

    Beilari evening meal

Has anyone got any experience of coming in on the 7.36pm train to SJPdP and then going for dinner at Beilari? I understand they start the meal at 7.30 and best case scenario I'd be arriving at 7.45. On previous caminos I've stayed at other places but everybody seems to love Beilari, however I'm...

    last minute dot com

Welcome @blind fool Even by bike that's a hell of a schedule you've set yourselves, best of luck. Just a quick word on the car hire. Even within the same company dropping a car off in a different country tends to cost a fortune (a couple of years ago the best quote I could find for one day...
