Well this should be fun - April 23rd 2024 start (Gulp!)

So today, I started what I always used to do on caminos, after having to abandon a camino for the second time; 4 weeks before starting, the Gehwol cream is applied twice a day to the feet. If nothing else, it makes your feet smell nice but it allegedly does make your feet less prone to blisters...

Well this should be fun - April 23rd 2024 start (Gulp!)

Kind words :-) I'm glad you enjoyed the Lana. Yes, it was the last one. It was a lovely Camino to do and Cuenca was a gem. I've been reading lots of stuff about the Catalan Camino, including your own notes. The details for the Lana have been saved away, just in case I have a change of heart at...

Well this should be fun - April 23rd 2024 start (Gulp!)

I can't believe it's been 5 years since the last Camino, but very happy tonight to have bitten the bullet. After loads of messing about, the flight has been booked to Barcelona, arrive midday on the 23rd April. Then straight up to Monserrat for the evening then next day, off we go on the Catalan...

Camino Del Norte - April 2024

I've been looking at the Norte as well over the last few days. A couple of things I've gleamed as I've not done this one before. There are a few hostels in Biarritz. One option you could consider would be to fly in and then take it slooooowwwwwww (you may be knackered and hanging around for 5...

Samsung translator app - real experience in Spain?

My phone is ancient so have been looking at options for a change, mainly an iPhone 15 or S24. Samsung's latest S24 set of phones have been heavily marketing their translator app. Has anyone been using the translator in Spain on their Caminos? If so, how have you found it? Marketing hype over...

    Gronze’s GPS tracks

This is a very useful post. Thank you! It has saved me a load of work, and reminded me what I sort of used to do when I went a-caminoing before Covid. I'm planning to do some new Caminos this year and possibly revisiting an old one at the moment, body willing, so very helpful stuff :-) .

Camino de St Paul's Trail, Turkey?

I was all set but was appalled at Turkey's tacit support of Russia. I couldn't go whilst they were still welcoming Russian tourists with open loving arms, still flew Russians to their holidays, whilst the Russian army waged war on Ukraine. I've boycotted Turkey for the future and am spending my...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Madrid at the mo.....

Sounds promising. The great thing about the caminos was the albergues - they made the walks accessible to everyone. Not everyone can afford €50 a night for a bed on top of all the other expenses, so let's hope the albergues all open ASAP and advertise they're open.

LIVE from the Camino Camino Madrid at the mo.....

Thanks. I suspected as much from other groups. Enjoy the walk. Segovia is great but the walk out of Segovia is one of my all time favourite days - classic big countryside, path leading off into the distance, mountains and a beautiful city being left behind...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Madrid at the mo.....

Having walked this twice, does anyone have some thoughts about the accommodation situation at the moment? If you set off in a few weeks, I wonder what you'd find? Currently re-looking at options for a trip sooner rather than later and I do like the Madrid ...

    Other Pilgrimage routes ......

No problem. Everywhere is possible by minibus, and then day walks as you see fit. The great thing about Turkey, and the Lycian Way, is you can use the brilliant minibusses that go everywhere to travel about, as well as coaches and trains. If my shoulder injury doesn't clear up within 3 weeks...

    Other Pilgrimage routes ......

If you haven't found your way to the 'Other Pilgrimage Routes' section of the forum, it's a really interesting place to get some ideas and read some blogs about other non-Spainish routes you can walk, some of which may be easier to visit or be just different. I walked the Lycian Way in Turkey 4...

Camino de St Paul's Trail, Turkey?

No worries. TBH, I'm ready to go in a few days time, especially when you look at the weather around Fethiya and Antalya at the moment! Just waiting for a shoulder problem to improve a bit more. All routes are mapped and GPXed, the rucksack is packed and there are loads of flights into Antalya...

Camino de St Paul's Trail, Turkey?

I'm looking at doing this route in a month's time, a mixture of camping and hopefully a couple of pensions. The route I'm doing is just over 300kms from near Antalya northwards and should take about 2 weeks. After that, I want to visit a few places, then head down to the coast to walk some of...

Virtual walk on the Camino de Madrid - Detailed planning

On both my trips, I recall the Tres one in the council house holding only 4 people, but all the others I stayed in were able to hold a dozen or more.

Virtual walk on the Camino de Madrid - Detailed planning

"Añe....... No bar or shop in the village." From my notes on the 2017 walk ... "However, and here is the good news, there is a bar in Ana! Crazy, but it has no sign and no name and the locals I asked earlier all denied there was a cafe / bar / shop. It is two minutes from the albergue. Find...

Virtual walk on the Camino de Madrid - Detailed planning

Totally agree. There are more than enough bars, eateries etc, and most people are only going to arrive in the late afternoon, shower, eat, drink, sleep and be gone early the next day. Anywhere can be fine for a short stay.
