Altra trail shoes versus hiking shoes

I put 838+ miles plus on my new ALTRA Men's Superior 3.5 doing SJPDP to Finistere, and part of the Portuguese. No blisters, I love these shoes, but the inside of the heel was wearing out before Santiago (so I added some duct tape). I highly recommend Superfeet insoles (I used Green). These...

Via del la Plata in early Sept - who else will be there.

I agree that it can get a lot colder from about Salamanca.. In 2015, left Sevilla about September 6, some of the days were very hot. By October 2, around Rionegro del Puente, it was very cold in morning (for a weather wimpy Californian). I bought a cheap watch cap and pair of gloves. That said...

Would it be worth it to photograph the whole Camino Frances

Hi Todd/Tman, I imagine that you have stumbled across John Sikora's beautiful videos of the Camino Francés . Adding still images to the body of knowledge would certainly be of value to some people. I don't have have a television, and would definitely be inclined to scroll through 16,000...

    SIM card advice

The least expensive alternative is probably just buy a local SIM card once you are on the ground. Companies like ~simoptions.com~ tend to have high mark-ups (and no shops should you have issues). The only real disadvantages of buying a local SIMs which come to mind are that you won't know your...

Credencial - Filling out the first page information

I am 99% certain that we crossed paths multiple times! I have photos of you at the communal dinner at Albergue A Reboleira in Fonfria, the pizza place in Portomarin, and the 100km marker. We also ran into each other on the bus back from Finisterre. After the bus station in Santiago, I went...

    Roncesvalles

I had the Menú del día at Casa Sabina. I had a Bacalao starter, a lamb stew, and an attractive dessert. It included an acceptable bottle of Tempranillo for about 12 Euros (in 2018). I enjoyed it a lot and by eating midday there was no conflict with the Pilgrim's Mass. ¡Buen Camino!

Stupid question about the boat ride

Hi Linda, When I took the dinghy (in October 2018) the crew seemed committed to the environment and making the (cold) journey interesting and comfortable. They were very helpful loading bikes for some cyclists who joined part way. You will be fine. ¡Buen Camino!

October 12, 2015 on the Via de la Plata After leaving early from Ourense, we deviated from the path indicated in the tracks that I had loaded into Maps.me because we saw clear and credible arrows and other pilgrims turning. We continued up a long and step hill and were happy to hit a plateau...
