Hello fellow pilgrims, I am booking myself some transport from Pamplona train station to Saint Jean Pied de Port for the early afternoon of Tuesday 23 April (my train is scheduled to arrive to Pamplona at 13:45). If there is anybody who happens to be going my way, please let me know, I'd be...
Hi @Roma247 - time is a mysterious factor that for me, is difficult to advise others about- we are all so different in both what we are capable of doing, and how we want to do it (on the camino and in life). Like you, I think if one can avoid stress regarding whether you have enough time, that’s...
This is a great thread- thanks to all who have responded- I asked myself the exact same question a day ago, for a camino in the last part of August, starting at SJPdP, but with the clear plan to deviate either to the San Salvador and primitivo, or taking the invierno in to Santiago
Thanks so much! Maybe I’m doing it wrong but I never seem to find these super relevant threads when I try to search…. Actually, I probably am doing it wrong! I appreciate the tip!
Thanks - great tip re: the guide - I will have a look for that. I tend to read the guidebooks before departure and then relying on the wise pilgrim app whilst walking, I enjoy the planning and cogitation as part of the pre-camino experience!
Yes - that seems to be my natural pace - its a strange thing to walk faster than the majority of people you meet - for me it meant that I met with different groups and people everyday, rather than meeting the same people again and again and forming a "camino family"... I met one fellow...
Yes- the verde looks like a lovely variante. Not sure I want to avoid the Frances entirely…. I’m assuming that it won’t be as crazy busy as walking from Saria in Semana Santa was last year….
My Spanish is fluent, haven’t used GPS tracks much aside from occasionally using my phone and the wise pilgrim app to get back on the trail after getting lost
Hello fellow Pilgrims, I'm looking for some collective wisdom / advice please, from those who have more experience of the routes above than I do. I've walked a little in Spain before (Camino Frances in March 2023, and Via de la Plata a few years back) but need to comeback and walk again. All...
I love the idea of winging it, and that’s what I do most of the time. I also don’t feel bad if I need to make a booking for some reason- I did this a little in semana santa, as it was insanely busy- my fault for arriving at Sarria to coincide with that busy period….
Personally, I always try and avoid Paris anyway (what are the odds that some part of your journey through France will be impacted by some kind of strike or another) and head to Spain. I hear there are lots of other good options in Europe as economical entry points too…. This year it was way more...
I walked the CF in March / April this year, I found good deals on google flights- that web site will send you updates if you ask it to, for good deals on your preferred route.
This year was my second camino - it was the CF from Saint Jean. my first was in 2016 (via de la plata, then on to...
I walked this year, in mid- March to mid-April on the Frances, and in May 2016 on the VDLP to Astorga, then the from there Frances to SdC. It was only “too busy” for me from Sarria, and that was my fault for arriving in Sarria at the beginning of Semana Santa. I really like other pilgrims, and...
Thanks for the tip - I have heard very little about the Camino Verde - it sounds like I might need to investigate further.... Maybe it was the headspace I was in at the time, but Sarria to Santiago in Semana Santa was really not ideal for me, and I think if I found a good alternative, I'd...
I watched your video on this the other day- it really got me reconsidering if I should stay on the Frances the whole way, whether the invierno might be too quiet, and whether the primitivo might be just busy enough to get my fix of camino community that is super important to me about the whole...
it’s great to hear about these different ideas. After walking the Frances from SJPDP this year way too quickly (I’ve been regretting not taking it more slowly) and arriving in in Sarria coinciding with Semana Santa (and really feeling overwhelmed by the crowds) I’ve been considering doing the...
