I hope that I never come across them. However I know that they can also be found in 5 star hotels anywhere in the world. In fact I think it was (the whole city of) New York, that a had a plague in the top Hotels about 10-15 years ago. I'm allergic to Pyrethrum and it's by-products, so can't use...
Last time I was at O'Cebrero, there was no shower curtain on any of the cubicles or curtains over the window, side on to the showers. But by that time, I'd dealt with a lot of things that I had earlier thought important re: privacy.
Taxis are easily found for the rest of the Camino. Buses may daily or only run twice a week so don't assume (like I did once). Some places have trains.
I've walked the Camino from SJPdP twice. I have terrible neuropathy of the feet and get weekly acupuncture, which has changed my life. (I can now stand in a coffee or bank queue for more than 60 seconds without pain at 9/10.) I walked in Ecco boots which gave better support, and double socked...
I'm an Australian. We Aussies have been advised by our Government/ Police force over many years, to ensure that Passports, credit cards and these types of ID, shouldn't be taken out of our sight. That situation can, but may not always, lead to Identity Fraud, which is more and more common these...
I did also. But it was to support my neck and right shoulder better after a car accident years ago. I do Pilates a few times a week and it's MUCH better than it was, but due to the added weight of backpack and weeks without my weekly treatments, it was taken as a preventive to bigger issues. But...
Thanks for all of the above replies. Lots of good and sensible information. I'll let my friend know. She had assumed the dog would prevent her from doing it. Maybe as dougfitz states, it might be harder to enter the EU rather than be on the Camino due to a quarantine period etc. The dog was...
Knitting needles used to be banned (post 9/11) for International travel from Australia. They even made it onto the list of prohibited items. But at some point a few years later were okay!! I don't knit anyway, but Kathar1na, who knows if it'll be a part of my 3rd Camino life changing experience...
Asking for a friend: Do you know if the accreditation is specific to Spain, or if accredited in their home country is sufficient. I imagine, that there still must be an international standard. My friend has only had her assistance dog, trained and accredited by the Vision Impaired Society, for...
I can only speak from my personal experience and I don't know enough about the mechanics etc about walking with poles. That's why I paid for two lessons before my first Camino, by a physiotherapist with the correct experience. In my case, my injuries resulting from a car accident were to be...
Yes, and that's excellent. Thanks, I did read the thread. I was simply telling you what usually has occurred in past Winters. That's why I worded it the way that I did. And I also know from experience that even when it's not Winter, but the during peak times, they can take up to 8 weeks to reply...
Orisson often don't check emails during Winter, although they may. If you haven't heard back, make sure you definitely do it from April 1st. They ask you to PayPal money as soon as they've contacted you.
I stayed at Beilari Private Alburgue in SJPdP. Small rooms. Great community evening meal...
It's about thinking of multiple roles for minimum clothes. Everyone else will be doing the same, so no one notices if you wear the same clothes day after day. By chance I had different coloured pants and shirts so from a 'photoshoot' perspective LOL, at least I could mix it up a bit.
I took two set of pants and shirts depending on weather (done it twice), plus an Icebreaker short sleeve shirt (that was either PJs, shirt for walking or in evenings, thermal, etc depending on weather, etc.) Each day's walking: wore one pair pants for a few days in a row until they needed a...
Availability depends on the time of the year. I've done the Camino twice. First time in April 2011 (because I'd been told that you couldn't book a bed in an alburgue along the Camino) I booked a (not too) expensive hotel the first night and stayed in the Parish alburgue the 2nd night. For my 2nd...
