Holed Up With a Nasty Cold

Have gotten horrid colds or a bad stomach virus on every Camino except the Portuguese Camino that I just finished on Friday. Add in the broken wrist that sent me home on one Camino and I longed for just one normal Camino! Got it this time, so maybe the sickness bad luck streak is finally...

    Bar etiquette

I return my cups and glasses in Frankfurt quite often, and I did it in Spain quite often too. Especially in the small places where only 1, maybe 2 people were working. Always got a Gracias in return. Is it needed? No, but just something nice to do.

    Break O’Cebreiro climb

My thighs hurt, but I would certainly ride again! Have never heard anyone say it hurt so bad they wouldn’t do it again.

Nervous about going alone, without my partner

Lisa, I wrote my response in January, before anyone knew what kind of scam was happening with WOACA. I would no longer recommend that group to women.

    Break O’Cebreiro climb

Stayed at Casa Susi in Trabadelo, then walked to La Escuela to overnight. Single beds & great food in the restaurant. Next morning 1.5 km to O Cebrio (sunrise!!!!) then on to Fonfria. Have ridden the horses too & it makes for a unique experience. Use Jacotrans for transport.

    Cancelling Camino - Soliciting Advice

Maybe walk up the coast for a few days then train to Valenca & finish from there. We did this in 2018 & it worked well

What do you wash your clothes with

I just use shampoo. Brought Dr Bonners last year but didn’t like it for my hair. Shampoo is fine for everything

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

Then just use a cloth & wash it out. Why is this not an option for so many women?

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

Of course thin pads weigh something. Walk for 45 days & bring along 45 of them. How much does that weigh? Now think about the trash? If over 200,000 women walked at least 1 week? How many thin pads would that be adding to trash? Close to 1.5 million. Sorry, but for me, this is not a good...

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

The Kula cloth is nice, but expensive. I just use bandanna squares that get washed in my laundry.

    Liner Socks

I wear nylons under my socks, but turn both of them inside out so the seams don't rub. A lot cheaper than silk liners. No blisters yet in 5 Caminos.

Searching for an albergue or hostal to run

The same one, where this albergue is for rent. It is why I commented on the post - Espinosa.

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

They are not ridiculous devices if it allows women to pee discretely and standing up just like men do. Without taking down their pants. It also cuts down the TP litter plus all the 1000s of plastic bags needed for this TP if it is to be carried out by the woman. Take a look at the P-style...

Searching for an albergue or hostal to run

I stayed in this town last spring in Casa de Las Almas, (which is a fabulous place to stay by the way) and saw that this albergue that the town wants to now rent, was closed. The town was full and really could have used another place to be open. The other albergue was busy serving food and...

    Accommodation for Volunteer

You can make reservations with San Martin by email. I do it every year, and this includes reserving a pilgrim room if you like.

Sleeping bag or just liner (starting Frances at SJPdP on April 25th)

Have walked this stretch the last 2 springs, April and May, and it was cold at night and in the mornings, like around 2°C. most mornings until almost the end of May. I was very glad to have my cosy sleeping bag.

Where is the most reliable accommodation information?

I find that albergue owners know what is happening. Ask them. Then see if they will call to the next town for you and reserve a bed. Buy them a coffee or a beer or a wine when they do this favor for you. Make sure you show up at that albergue the next day so your reservation is not wasted.

Any recommendations for where to stay in Hornillos and El Burgo Ranero

They had services in the church in Hornillos last year that were lovely. Bit of a surprise how ornate it was inside.

Pamplona to Estella in three gentle days (March 18-20 ish)?

I agree, walking to Uterga from Pamplona is far enough for the 1st day. I barely made it to Obanos on my 1st Camino and wished that I had stayed in Uterga. Another suggestion is to perhaps stay near the edge of Pamplona instead of in the middle near the Cathedral? Saves a lot of km. that 1st...

We walked Pamplona to Uturga, then to Maneru, then to Estella.
