    Shoe advice

My advice is to go with Lowa Innox Evo Ttx Lo. These shoes are amazing: very light, waterproof, extremely comfortable, an excellent choice for almost all types of terrain that you can have on the Camino. Whatever your choice may be, try to walk with them for about 50km before leaving.

Which would be your next phone?

A few years ago I decided to switch to smartphones, so I bought the best available at that time: Samsung Galaxy S3 and Iphone 4S. After a few months I got rid of the Iphone: TERRIBLE! :) After a Sony Xperia Z3, I now have a Microsoft Lumia 950 which works excellent and has a really good camera...

    From SJPP in 2018

Ranjit, if you are fit enough, that schedule is totally doable. ;)

    My first El Camino

MaryAnneS, I am not very comfortable sleeping with others in the same room and I care about my intimacy, so I stayed a lot in hotels and pensions. If you want, I can send you the list of the places I used. :)

    My first El Camino

MaryAnneS, you can take a look at the albergue in Pobena here . After checking info regarding its availability I realized that it is open until the end of September, so, even if you want to go there, you can't. :) I suggest you take a look here and here to find information on (suggested) stages...

Norte - Just Returned from a Great Experience!

MaryAnneS, I also finished the Norte on the 9th of October. If you want to start in Bilbao, I suggest you take one full day to visit the city and skip the stage to Portugalete and go by train there or even to Muskiz and then walk to Pobena. I would also recommend you to go from Bilbao to San...

(Too) busy in October? Or quietly (again)?

Do they? :) Let's wait their reaction! Well, in the spirit of what we were talking about: a Protestant singing an Eastern Orthodox song in a Roman Catholic church. :)

(Too) busy in October? Or quietly (again)?

Kanga, no preaching, of course. Can it be ... singing? :)

(Too) busy in October? Or quietly (again)?

I used the term "pilgrimage" referring to a journey to a sacred place. From what I know, Santiago is a holy place for Roman-Catholics. Sure, we can call "holy" every place where God's presence is, taking into account Moses' experience with the bush. Well, there will always be people who don't...

(Too) busy in October? Or quietly (again)?

Well, for those who are not Catholics, it is not a pilgrimage. :) And there is no problem in that. I walked the Camino just because I wanted to enjoy solitude and see nice places, and I know for sure I was not the only one doing that.

    My first El Camino

So, back home after an amazing well deserved holiday! :D I left my country on the 15th of September, hoping to start walking on the very first day. Well, I couldn't since I reached Irun after 7PM :(. I planned to arrive in Santiago on the 10th of October, and had in mind just a little bit on...

    My first El Camino

Dear Laurie, I visited Zaragoza (and I don't like it too much :( ). What I liked was the Cathedral and a very good vegetarian restaurant called Baobab. :D Thank you for the information provided! Time to go to bed... last sleep before El Camino! :) P.S.: my backpack is only 5.6kg!!!

    My first El Camino

Dear Laurie, thanks for your advice and for your kind thoughts. I will start without any plan regarding the switch of routes and make up my mind on the spot. The only detour I want is a day in Picos de Europa. :D Dear Kanga, I will be alone on the way (officialy alone, of course not refusing...

    Starting Norte September 14 solo

Hi, Pete! Thanks for the "update". I too was, like Simon, hoping del Norte would not be crowded. Well, anyway, it will be an interesting experience. :) Buen Camino!

    Starting Norte September 14 solo

Simon, I suggest you take a look on www.blablacar.es where you can find some options to go from Bilbao to San Sebastian. There you can take a train to Irun. Currently there are three trips available that leave Bilbao after 15:00. They are also very cheap, 6-7 EUR. I will arrive in Irun on the...

    My first El Camino

It's the final countdown! :) After a hectic period (that will be resumed after the end of my first Camino), I finally decided to start my "adventure". So, on the 15th of September I will land in Zaragoza heading to Irun in order to start del Norte. I plan to arrive in Santiago on the 10th of...

Attacked by dog at Biduedo (about 6.5 K before Triacastela)

Living in Romania, I had a lot of encounters with stray dogs. The dog deterrent device works if the dog is not deaf. :) And some of the old ones are.

    My first El Camino

Anemone, thanks for your reply. I will definitely choose del Norte. :) I asked about budget since last October I visited San Sebastian, Pamplona and Zaragoza and the northern part of Spain can get quite expensive. But it seems I was worried for nothing. :) Food is one of my concerns since, as I...

    My first El Camino

Hello to all the community of "pilgrims" and many thanks to the forum's administrator and all those that contributed to its content! I want to walk my first El Camino and, since I admire the northern part of Spain, my choice is El Camino del Norte (and, if the experience will be a pleasant and...
