If yesterday was day -1, today was day zero. I meant to take a day to see Le Puy on Bastille day. Good thing that was accounted for because after mass I sat in my hotel and couldn't eat. Despite being a hefty person...my stomach was asleep and refused to eat. The lovely receptionist loaded...
It's been a tiring adventure getting from my home in Hamilton Canada to Le Puy. A bus, two plans and 3 trains.
Got here safely, dropped off my backpack and just bought my poles and credential. Time for a much needed break before crashing tonight.
I've walked both in July/Aug. I did not bring warm clothes other than a beanie for the CF. I only suffered twice. I added a fleece for the Norte and was cold many an evening. Also, as the weather was cooler I did not need by water bladder.
Watch for one of pilgrims completing a French route. I plan on 'finishing' in Pamplona and would love to donate my sticks so they can continue to Santiago.
I found an apartment on Trivago & Bookings that is $104 CAN / nite for an entire apartment. Try booking something like that and then you'll be a savior for another pilgrim or two who can stay with you. :)
Or: Book 2 nights in San Sebastian, take train to Irun with only a day pack (1L of water, snacks, etc) and walk back to your hotel. The only reason I found it a 'trying' day is that I arrived fairly late for night one and I was really jet-lagged while walking. Enjoy the food in San Sebastian. :)
Heya folks,
Due to successful treatment using surgery and radiation, I have some skin that simply CANNOT tolerate straps from my favorite backpacks. On my past 3 caminos I used a Gregory Z30, but only carried 20L max at a time. My preference is to carry my stuff. However ... I could walk...
My kitchen:
aluminum cup - cup, protecting fruit, boiling water (meals, tea)
plastic butter container - protecting food, lid = plate
metal spork
aluminum swiss army card (one side is a knife, OK to fly with in CAN & EU)
tea, instant coffee, hot sauce in dropper bottle
- this kit cost me about...
Looking at walking from Lyon to Le Puy in early July, before continuing on to Pamplona.
Could anyone give me advice on stages? Or share yours? I'm normally a hilly 20 km to flat 30 km / day walker. Not adverse to short days. :)
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I agree, there's nothing like trying it on. Personally, I will recommend the Greggory Miwok. Both the 12L and 18L seem great....depends on your capacity need.
I will be travelling from Morocco and am hoping for 7-10 day suggestions for afterwards. Unfortunately my endurance is not where I would like it to be. Max 30K flat, 20K mid, less...unsure. Thanks for any suggestions!
I'm looking for a walk that is about 2 weeks. For background: previous CF (Pamplona), CP (Lisbon), CdN (Irun), Bruce Trail (best job ever!) plus some shorter routes. God willing I'll be walking Geneva to Pamplona next summer.
This summer I would prefer a walk in Europe or North American...
24L is a good summer size. I choose to take a 30L because it was so much for comfortable fully loaded. Meant there was also room for snacks for isolated stages.
