    Las Médulas. Wow!

LIVE from the Camino On my way tomorrow!

Buen Camino! We walked it from Bonar last year in May.

    Santiago de Compostela best restaurant

We love O’42 on Rua Franco. Gone there after each of my Caminos.

Olvidado or Primitivo - which would you recommend?

I'd recommend the Primitivo in your situation. I wouldn't walk the Olvidado alone: too much mountain terrain with the chance of a sprained ankle (or worse), a need for some decent Spanish, and accommodations challenges. It IS beautiful and I enjoyed it (two of us 70+, last May--from Bonar only)...

LIVE from the Camino @kcaldaba on the Olvidado (with another geezer)

Lainey: Glad you're considering the Olvidado. Hopefully these posts give you an idea of how we dealt with various "challenges." I'm hopeful of doing the Portugues this fall. Got to plan and hope!

    Carabiners or “S” hook?

Hero Clip is great. Functional, flexible, and light.

    Lodging in Pandorado or Riello

Great news about another option, and quite reasonably priced. I don't recommend Resthy's in Pandorado even if rooms are available -- he was very uncooperative and rude to us when we were looking for a place to stay in May. If your mileage works out to get to Vegarienza, definitely get in touch...

    Small digital camera

I carry a Canon SX 620 in addition to my phone. The Canon has a long optical zoom lens, which comes in handy and the phone can't match. Not sure of your budget, but it retails for just over $300.

There were three rooms with beds. Also shower and toilet. Very basic but acceptable.

Comparing the Invierno to other caminos

We made reservations and were glad we did. Another pilgrim with us one day had to call four places until she found accommodations for the night.

    Arrow trickery on the Olvidado

    GPS, definitely.

    Arrow trickery on the Olvidado

If I recall, this is at the top of the first major climb, where you have a great 360 degree view. Another reason to have an app accessible with GPS tracks.

Comparing the Invierno to other caminos

Glad you’ve decided to move ahead. You’ve already received some good, recent advice, but I thought I’d chime in as well. Two of us (70+) recently completed the Invierno after also doing about half the Olvidado (meaning we were already tired when we reached Ponferrada). I found the Invierno to...

    Let’s hear your Ender stories!!

I had the great fortune to meet Ender a week ago Saturday in Cinera on the Olvidado. I walked into town looking for a bar for refreshments and found a small fiesta going on. As I walked into the square (obviously looking very much like a pilgrim) Ender walked up to me and introduced himself. He...

Yes, we’re in the albergue across the street from Restaurante La Playa. Ignacio has been very welcoming and helpful!

The beautiful new albergue in La Magdalena.

    Lodging Labaniego to Cobrana?

The website of the Casa Rural in Quintana de Fuseros says they charge 450 euro! That's probably for the entire house. I think we'll wait until I get there, see how we're "progressing," and see if we think we need to break up those days better. Thanks for all your help!

    Lodging Labaniego to Cobrana?

And I "spoke" with the owner of the Casa Rural in Arlanza -- the El Mayulon, I believe. They are closed into mid-June -- gone to Mallorca!
