I am currently working as a Hospitalaro in a newly reopened Donativo Albergue in Vergen del Camino, just a short distance from Leon. It was closed for 5 years due to, initially the pandemic. It is sparkly clean and looking for wayward Pilgrims
Peter, I have used Gronze on my Android phone. I looked up the gronze site on my phone and when I had it open, I bookmarked the page to my home screen and now, with wifi, it is a 1 touch opening to the Gronze site.
I, also, have done Paris to St Jean and went downstairs in CDG and took the train from the airport. No trouble trying to get to downtown Paris. 2 stops and you are in St. Jean
I have walked 4 times from St Jean and after flying from W/Canada I need certainty for my first few nights sleep. I would not skip Roncesvalles. I think it is the first introduction to being in the Pilgrim experience. I now book to Pamplona. After that it evens out.
Last September I used the Camino Ninja app. It was the most up to date for open and closed Albergues. I have Locus Maps on my phone for getting lost.....
I have been on the Frances 3 times. Leaving from Kelowna BC. Twice I've flown via CDG and once directly into Biarritz. The Air Canada flights land in T2, the same terminal the train leaves from. So, twice, I've walked 20 minutes through the terminal and got on the train to Bayonne and then to...
I am now in Rabanal del Camino and I am booking ahead due to so many Albergues being closed. In Rabanal at least 50% ate closed. I am trying to book 3 days ahead. It's not as enjoyable as my 2 previous Caminos
My concern, after 3 Camino Frances, is that the weakness of most running shoes is when you walk on the rocky gravel paths. The protection from "pointy" rocks is missing on most running or trail running shoes. A sturdy insole is, to me, the most important part of the system. A bruised sole or...
I have run into some small issues with Albergues that are closed when i had expected them to be open. I did not book ahead for Uterga but no problem as I arrived around 13:30. I hoped for the same in Lorca but both Albergues are closed, as well in Villatuerta.. An extra 9.9 km at the end of a...
As noted above I applied for and received the French Pass Sanitaire which I was required to show on arrival at CDG and when checking in to the Albergues in St Jean and Orrisson. I am now in Roncesvalles and they did not ask for any data. I did not have to isolate because of the health pass.
Arrived at CDG and Cleared Customs and immigration and walked to the TGV station. Total time from plane to train station 45 minutes. On my way to St. Jean.
