    Portugal's Fisherman's Trail...help!

I recommend going to the Rota Vicentina website - it has a wealth of information along with maps, places to stay, where to eat, etc. I mentioned a guidebook in my post but that may have been something the Rota sent us when we became members - not sure there was an official one besides that one...

    Giant Waves for Surfers

Late to the conversation, but here's an interesting link: The Biggest Wave Surfed This Year

    This says it all

I went to the Oficina De Acogida Al Peregrino site the other day and saw this. Pretty sad. We were planning to hike the Via Francigina in northern France starting May 22nd in Calais, and unless something dramatic happens that's pretty much a no go. Fortunately, we have plenty of great memories...

    Places to stay around Olhain

Planning to be in the area of Olhain on 28 May this year. The only place that I think might have accommodations is Parc d'Olhain (although they haven't responded to my inquiries yet). Has anyone else found a place to stay in or around Olhain? Thx!

    First Day Out of Calais

Great advice, all! Many thanks. We only have 42 days available this time, so obviously we're not going to make it to Rome - will be taking our time and enjoying the hike, and will pick up where we stopped (wherever that may be) next time. If any of you have additional tips on things to do or...

    First Day Out of Calais

Anyone have opinions on the best way to leave Calais, going to either Wissant or Guines? Wissant is the official way, but I can save an entire day by going directly to Guines. My preference is to go directly to Guines, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts/experiences. Thanks!

Anyone have a favourite British Pilgrimage?

In September, we hiked the South West Coast Path, starting in Holywell Bay and ending in Falmouth. It's not a pilgrimage, but it was spectacular. Beautiful scenery with lovely towns and villages, and the people of Cornwall were the kindest and most helpful we've ever run into. A fairly physical...

    Feels Like a Lost Year

How do you compare a sunset vs a lazy, rainy afternoon - both are perfect and great in their own ways. That's what it's like trying to compare food in Italy to France to Spain to Portugal. Each are delicious in their own special way. That said, France is probably "specialer", although Italy is a...

    Feels Like a Lost Year

This is the first year in the last four that we didn't do a Camino due to obligations at home ... and it's driving me crazy! A bit of history (mine): I was unaware of any of this until one day my girlfriend said she was going to do the CF and wanted to know if I wanted to come along. Being...

    A plea!

" I won't go into more detail ..." Good Lord, is that even possible? :D (But, seriously, congrats and thanks going the extra mile to maintain the trail!)

    A plea!

It's ever thus. When I completed my CF, I posted something very similar, and it's a recurring theme. Maybe the registration office should issue a box of biodegradable tissues to every hiker! :)

    Peregrino pedicure...

On a completely different track, when we were coming home after our hike in France, we got foot massages in the CDG airport. It was awesome! We both felt like we were walking on air afterwards. Was it expensive? It was an airport in France, so of course it was expensive! But totally worth it.

    A little VF humour...

    Exactly! And nor should they!

    Why oh why, why, why.....

That's why I always hit sites like eBay and etsy (I'm sure there are others) to see if I can get the vintage stuff.

Favorite area to stay in Porto? (post Camino)

I can highly recommend the Nice Way Porto Hostel. We stayed there in 2016, just a couple of weeks after it had opened. Despite little glitches they were working through, we really enjoyed our stay. It's very centrally located and the prices were very reasonable considering the location. There's...

    Rota Vicentina

We stayed at Pure Flor de Esteva. I just checked, and they have one night stays; in June, it runs 79 euros/night, which is way more than we paid. At that time they had only been open for a week so they were getting their feet wet, hence the lower price, I guess. It's certainly not fancey, but it...

    Rota Vicentina

We didn't find one. From what we read and heard, it was sort of a slog, so we just took a bus and enjoyed several days of R&R in Lisbon before heading north.
