Training has been good, I think. Hiked 20k with 10k in pack on Thursday. Legs were strong, shoulders a little sore Friday & Saturday. Thank goodness I won't be carrying that much. I guess I won't know how well I have trained until about day 5. And then again, El Camino will be training me...
Joining you in the excitement of actualising the dream. I fligh out one week from today. Fine tuning my packing, waterproofing & spraying my gear for bed bugs. Training has me feeling tired and enthusiastic. Burn Camino!
Hi Anne,
My friend Yvonne and I are first timers and get into SJPP on March 30. We hope to go the Napoleon route and get to Roncesvalles leaving SJPP on April 1st. Haven't made a reservation in SJPP, just thinking of figuring it out when we get there. So excited!!! Thinking about the...
I will be in that competition for most colorful as I have also been shopping the sales.
I found some great shirts made of bamboo which wick away and are antimicrobial, they are called icebreaker. A sales person at REI recommended them and I found their website and found sale items there to be...
Brien, thanks so much. You have done a great job with this book. Wonderful information! I love the details on the packing list, feet, and electronics.
Buen Camino
So I have decided on gators. I have a great rain coat/shell. I have an REI rain cover for my pack. The more I watch YouTube, etc. the more I see clips of people with ponchos that cover them and their packs. The look very light and flimsy and seem to blow all over in the wind. Those are not...
I was shopping rain gear the other day and looking at the Gaiters at REI and the salesperson/experienced hiker said I only need gaiters for snow hiking. I am curious if they are standard equipment for April rain along the Camino.
Thanks so much for sharing. 2 questions: if you don't mind me asking, what were the daily pads for, and you didn't take any shower shoes/flip flops. I am trying to decide about Tevas because I thought they would be good for shower shoes and to wear in the evenings, but I am worried about being...
Yes Marbuck, I agree. I have been learning about all the trash left behind by peregrinos and saddened. I have also been pondering trying to do some trash pickup as I walk. I will have to see how my energy goes since this is my first, but I hope to leave the Camino cleaner then when I get there.
CaminoDebra, now understanding that route is closed until April 1st the weather will decide for me.
I was planning on going all the way to Roncesvillas. Thank you!
Hello, I look forward to seeing you along the way. If all goes well I will arrive in SJPP on March 30. I am waiting to see what the weather sends to decide which trek from SJPP to Roncesvalles, but perhaps we will run into each other. Buen Camino!
Super excited! Bought my plane ticket last week!
I will be arriving in Madrid on March 27th and making my way to SJPP to start on either March 31 or April 1.
I read somewhere that the Napolean Route from SJPP is closed until April 1, regardless of weather conditions. Can someone tell me if...
