Quick question. We are planning to travel from Santiago to Fatima around April 14. What might be the best and easiest way to travel to Fatima, bus or train? :) :)
I carried a sleeping bag for my first Camino (Aug- Oct 2016) and used it twice. Purchased a Costco down throw and will bring that along with my silk on my next Camino .... :)
I am no special person on dealing with anything like this. But I sense that all you need to do is take a few deep breaths then go. A miracle will happen when you arrive and meet your first pilgrims where "The Way" begins. I did my first Camino last August.... :)
I did the camino last September from St. Jean to Santiago. Now I am looking at doing the route from Porto with my wife. She has a knee replacement and problems with her ankles. I was wondering if there is enough albergues along the route to do it in 15 -18 days. Also what route ie coastal or...
Just as a follow up to the Locus Map thread. Locus Map does import GPX files (route files created on GPS units or available for download online). When locus map imports GPX files they are converted to Tracks. To do this, transfer the GPX file to your Android phone, go to your files, tap the GPX...
I just checked and the Northern Camion Route is there also in blue. My GPS runs in airplane mode. (android). When zooming in on Almeria in South Spain I could not find Camion route. Even without the route the app in combination with a guide book will be useful .... :)
Lee, walk with no expectations, an open mind, an open heart and an open soul and both you will be fine..... and most of all wide foot boxed light hikers, lower laces loose, a good liner sock and a light over sock (merino if possible), remove when you arrive each day and lubricate sore muscles...
Lee, Select Spain maps. Zoom to any town or city along the Camino and you should see a blue line with the Camino shell symbol at increments along it. That is the route (its not the same route format that you might be familiar with on a GPS where a route is a series of waypoints and the unit...
Hello, I used Locus Map for android available from Play Store during my Camino this past August and September. It is free and if you pay approx. $4.50 you loose the ads and get a larger screen. You also can add three free full map sets. I added Spain, full topo, streets etc and it has the full...
Walked my Camion this past late August, September and early October. Clear your mind, clear your soul, have no expectations and your Camion will be, as mine was, a moving and profound experience ..... no fear, just walk .... :)
Don't skip the Meseta......
Breaking Fast (Breakfast)
First oak trees would show themselves
Lit against the Meseta. Then the growing
Spire of the cathedral when I’d catch it
Pricking from the valley into the horizon.
Maturing quick as a radish seed, rising fast
As a ship’s mast...
Late August, September, few days into October 2016. Thirty-three days, read the first few pages of my guidebook, one day I didn't even knew the name of the village I was in when asked. Never regretted getting up in the mornings, never had a blister. The Camino, as told to me by a 77 year old...
Strange isn't it. I returned from my Camino on October 7 unpacked my pack and placed it and the contents in a plastic container marked "Camino". I will be called again to walk, not sure when, but there will be another wonderful journey ..... :)
Early Coffee on the Meseta
When the sky fills with moon
I go early for the darkest coffee.
Leonard Cohen sings his ballads
From a corner stool in my head.
God’s fire is on its way.
Residue of the devil; some may think.
Just scalping the mountain hill;
I drink my coffee and watch...
I completed my Camino (the French Way, August 28 – October 3) and here are a few short notes I would like to share …..
- A German man, who was 77 and on his seventh Camino, turned to me in a bar and said the Camion is a “Gift from God”, I believe this to be so.
- I had no blisters or...
Well this is it. Got the Camino de Santiago in my head in mid January and couldn't shake it out for some strange and wonderful reason. Travelling to Biarritz tomorrow then on to Lourdes for a day then back to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Sure I have knots in my stomach but that is normal at the...
I too will be on the Camino beginning late August. I have be walking with a light pair of Icebreaker liner socks under Smartwool phd outdoor since early February. I recently picked up a pair of phd outdoor lights. My liner socks wore through around 974 km and were replaced as they have a life...
