David--Not necessarily. I'm 5'0" and weigh as much as you do. My pack weighs just as much. I am top heavy to boot. Stepping over logs, stone piles, barriers is difficult. I agree with everything and more that KJFSophie said. And for those who think we shorties walk faster because we have short...
I love cafe con leche, but have to say, the coffee in Spain is the HOTTEST coffee I've ever had. I ordered a cafe con leche one morning and had to leave it untouched because by the time to leave, it was still too HOT to drink!
I also walked by it for a first time in June 2016, and agree wholeheartedly about a dystopian future, and everything that was said above. My thinking was, 'thank goodness we decided earlier NOT to stop here"! Wow, very scary looking place.
This section is very hilly, up, down, up, down, all day long. I was exhausted! I had broke it into 2 days. Palas to Melide, Melide to Arzua...even so, up, down, up down, up down.....I really began to hate going down, because I knew I was going to have to go back up!
I took a sling pack similiar to yours and LOVED it! Very comfortable even when stuffed full. I modified mine a little by sewing velcro loops on the sides to attach my poles- but admit I never used it. My favorite thing was the little pocket on the front strap. Big enough for my hankie and a...
Mark, you don't remember any nasty steep section because you took the easier way behind the buildings and not the nastier newer section that branches off the road. If someone would only add that green line on the map it would become clear there is 3 seperate ways into Portomarin.
Jeff, thank you for that map showing the old (yellow) and new (blue). BUT...I dont know how to do it, and would if I could... We need to ADD a green line which branches off the blue which is showing the dangerous new route. The green line branches off onto the road to the left to the easier...
Dougfitz, I was there in June this year also. I stopped in Vilacha to ask about the new route. Apparently the OLD route approaching Portomarin's bridge from the right is no longer marked. The new route heads down the road in the opposite direction where it then splits off, to the right and the...
Annie, I so relate to your frustration. I was very frustrated everytime I came to a mojone and saw it scribbled on, or bridge underpass with graffiti, and all the toilet paper and garbage thrown around. Who does this and for what purpose? Why can't people just leave things alone?
In another...
I've just returned from my camino...Sarria to Santiago. I used CaminoWays to organize my trip. I broke it down to complete it in 8 days...plenty of time. Walked anywhere from 7-12 mikes a day which was just right for me. It wasn't easy walking with what I considered 2 days from hell. It was...
It was with unexpected tears and raw emotions that I received my Compostela June 15th. Although my journey only started in Sarria, and to most just a short walk...to me it was everything and I am thankful that I was able to complete my Camino.
I LOVE that story Ms.Path. Who would think to look to the walls of an elementary school for an ATM! lol I'm solo excited I leave for Madrid first thing in the morning...
Interesting strategies that I never considered before. Didn't know about the Farmacies. Never even considered it. Love the idea of stamping the journal too. Thanks so much for these great ideas!
I'm wondering and haven't seen the answer to this question anywhere, so I'll go ahead and ask: To get a sello at an albergue etc. do you have to actually have stayed there?
Hey, thanks so much! I KNEW I saw that map somewhere! There it was right under my nose all the time. Sometimes things get a little overwhelming and disorganized with all the details that need planning. Once I get myself out of Sarria and onto the Camino I'm just going to ease off and go with...
