Be careful sending luggage to Santiago

Hi Karen and Ivar, So sorry to hear about your trouble with luggage. My husband met me in Leon (October 2016) and we shipped a suitcase on to Ivar in Santiago. The process could not have been easier. Post Office in Leon was efficient and price was very reasonable (20 USD). It would seem...

What is in the essential first aid kit

I think everyone has weighed in with lots of great ideas. I too will say the pharmacies were very well equipped and knowledgeable. At one pharmacy a woman on the staff actually threaded my blister and dressed it. One thing I will add. I developed a nasty shin splint after my 2nd week. The...

    Corazon Puro closing

Istvan and Barbara, So sorry to hear about your family health issues. I have spoken about my experience at your lovely home many times to fellow pilgrims. I stayed with you for one night last September. Your hospitality and graciousness was much appreciated. Liz Ward, Alexandria, VA

Finding my way to St. John pied de port.

Hi, I just returned from the Camino Frances last week and have another idea for you. I flew from Washington, DC to Madrid and then took a plane to Pamplona (you could probably find a flight from Barcelona too). I then took a cab to the bus station in Pamplona and was picked up Istvan who has...

    heatwave on the Camino???

I am packing for my September 14th departure from SJP and have been anxiously watching the weather reports for various towns on the Camino. I will be walking until October 28th so I am trying to decide how warm it will be as I get into October. The weather projections for the next 10 days...

Walking the Camino from September to October

Hello fellow pilgrims. I will arrive in Madrid 9/13 and have booked a flight to Pamplona on the same day. Will be picked up be Istvan and will spend the night at his Albergue. Starting in SJP on 9/14. At the moment it is 91 degrees F in Alexandria, VA so training has been a bit spotty. Am...

    Toe Socks

Thanks again to all those that replied. I have purchased a german brand foot cream, will roll my socks down and hope for the best. Fortunately my walk will not be in the hotter months, but training in Washington, DC in July and August is very hot. Once again the forum has come through with...

    Toe Socks

I have been training with injinji toe socks, original weight, thin cushioning. The days that I have hiked 6 or more miles a disturbing rash appears on the inside of both legs, above my boot line but where the sock is touching my leg. In the past I have hiked in smart wool socks, but for the...

Needing a little bit of reassurance/clarity

Hi again, I bit the bullet and made a plane reservation from Madrid to Pamplona. I will arrive in Madrid at 7:40 am and leave for Pamplona at 12:55 pm. That should definitely give me enough time to get from one terminal to another. Thanks for all you help. Wish it were a bit cheaper but...

Needing a little bit of reassurance/clarity

Thanks for the quick reply. Of course I already have my plane ticket so it will probably cost a bit more to do an add on to Pamplona. I assume you contacted Istavan about your arrival time? How long a trip from airport to bus station? Thanks for the spanish lesson. I am really trying to...

Needing a little bit of reassurance/clarity

I have a similar question but have solved half of it. I will be arriving in Madrid airport the morning of 9/13. I want to get to Pamplona somewhat quickly as I will be picked up by Istavan and staying at Corazon Puro. Taking the train seemed more complicated. What about flying from Madrid to...

    2016 September/October Peregrinos Departures

I am starting my first Camino on September 14 from St. Jean. I will be walking alone until Astorga where I will hopefully meet my husband for the remainder of the walk. Very excited to be celebrating my 70th birthday year on the Camino.

Timing from Madrid to st. Jean

Hi Mike, After reading the info about staying at a pension outside of Pamplona, getting a good meal and bed AND then being driven to SJP the following day, I am thinking that might be the best option. At least I know I can begin the trek somewhat rested.

Timing from Madrid to st. Jean

Wow thanks so much for that additional information. So if I were to book with Corazon Puro, I need to get to Pamplona by 3:00?

Timing from Madrid to st. Jean

I will be flying into Madrid at 7:30 am on Sept. 13. My plan is to take the train to Pamplona then a bus to St Jean (unless I meet some pilgrims on the train who want to share a cab.) Is it realistic to think I can get to SJP in one day and begin walking on Sept. 14. The only reason I'm asking...

    2016 September/October Peregrinos Departures

Hi, I would like to add my name to the September 2016 list. I will be walking from St Jean to Santiago and possibly onto Fisterra. Plan is to leave on September 12 from Washington, DC and begin walking September 14. Liz Ward

    Camino in September 2016

Thanks for the encouragement. I will be starting in St Jean in Mid Sept. and taking an easy pace to Astorga. I'm sure my husband will enjoy his time in Astorga before I get there. We are trying to stay flexible about this so neither of us gets anxious about getting somewhere at a specified time.

    Camino in September 2016

Anyone walking Camino in September 2016. Looking for info about weather. My husband is going to meet me in Astorga which is about 3/4 of The Way. How difficult will this be to time our meeting? I will be turning 70 this year and want to celebrate this event by taking this amazing pilgrimage...
