    Via Francigena Convents & Monasteries

Thanks! Yes there was a spelling error on the Grone.com listing! i stayed there in 2018. Very simple - but everything you need. Just three beds in a single room. And of course, friendly!

    Via Francigena Convents & Monasteries

Excellent list - thanks. I read somewhere else this week that the (tiny) Convento Cappuccini in Chatillon is no longer accepting guests. BUT Gronze is still showing it (usually reliable) and their website is still showing it https://www.parrocchiachatillon.com/conventocappuccini. Can anyone...

    Camino de Madrid

A compensatory highlight (after a slightly trying morning) was lunch in the Argentian restaurant in Valsaín. Although it was full, and quite smart - it is not a bar, he fitted me in! Despite all that happened I would happily go again. An easy walk onward to La Granja - you can see it and follow...

    Camino de Madrid

I hope you will agree it is worth while. You will read after that my account of the old convent in Medina del Rioseco. I would be interested to hear of what is available there now.

    Camino de Madrid

Yes I did, and thoroughly enjoyed it. An interesting place and a very beautiful walk. See here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/a-short-walk-continued.51788/post-569412 Not sure I have a favourite Camino, but if i did......it would be the CdM. Tim

    Managing hip pain on Camino

I want to echo the advice of @SabsP and @lt56ny I know I sound from time to time like a cracked record here. | I am a physician. While this forum (which I love) is good for sharing experiences and getting encouragement from other people it is really NOT a forum for getting sound medical...

New Forum Topic... Portable Clothes Wringer?

I wonder is it still there? I remember using it in 2009 and my fleece coming out dry to the touch after about 3 mins.

Candasnos - information on accommodation options?

It is quoted as being a bit erratic in opening!! But Google says it is open tomorrow. "Restaurant where scenes from the legendary Jamón Jamón movie were filmed. The place is simple and very cozy. The food is homemade, ..." https://maps.app.goo.gl/kddNJ47JmH9JQJBLA You will need cash!! ;)...

Candasnos - information on accommodation options?

Very happy to hear that you got there in one piece. And yes I think it was probably a wise move to avoid the mountains in winter. The Centro Social was open in Candasnos when i passed, on a Friday afternoon.....but had neither coffee nor beer, so I had water. Christopher I did not meet. He...

Candasnos - information on accommodation options?

If you get to Candasnos it is only about 2km further to La Cruzanzana. You won't need the bus for that bit.

LIVE from the Camino Camino Ignaciano Autumn 2023

Hello! Sorry for some reason I missed this when you posted. I guess you have successfully navigated the mountains by now. Yes I seem to remember writing on VF del Sud for CPR a while back, but I cannot find it! I have walked on to S Maria de Leuca, and also from Durres in Albania on to Thessaloniki

Candasnos - information on accommodation options?

There is nothing in Candasnos. It is a bit of a ghost town. But La Cruzanzana was functioning last Novermber! Whatsapp +34 681 16 15 80 The bar functions during the day, and they can rustle up a bocadillo. A different barista came on in the evening, carrying with him a hot meal for me. The...

    Via Francigena Convents & Monasteries

That monastery (of ladies) in St Thierry was a particular favourite of mine. They have limited accommodation so it is worth booking. And yes a very short walk into Reims the next day. You can see it in the distance from the orchard.

Seeking information about Via Francigena Del Sud Iphone mapping app

Hi Bob, I am not sure about a dedicated app, but I downloaded these and used them in wikiloc, or whatever other app you like. https://www.viefrancigene.org/en/the-via-francigena-in-italy/#itsud

what does Gronze use for stages in the Via Francigena

The first two weeks or so, before and after Arras, are relatively straightforward and the route is well-defined (though still not without some meandering on the official route!) You will have no problem finding battlefield cemeteries along the path sometimes three or four per day. Arras is a...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Ignaciano Autumn 2023

Quick update. I am still alive(!) (people do wonder) and still walking. Today is Day 17 I think, Tuesday 14 November. I reached Zaragoza on Sunday and it is the half way stage. I had a day off on Monday and am starting again today to walk to Fuentes de Ebro and then….into the desert the...

Rome to Santa Maria di Leuca

The hostel is https://lobbycollective.com/en/ The cammino website is https://www.camminodelsalento.it/ The walk and waymarking is not quite as flash as the website!! But people did know about it whenever you arrived anywhere. You will need to use GPX which they have. I mixed and matched a bit...
