Your Salvador itinerary is what I did in 2019. I stayed in municipal albergues each night. For updated information on lodging check the Gronze website.
La Robla had restaurants and grocery stores. I did stock up with food to carry as there is limited support on days 2 and 3 on your itinerary...
I stayed at the municipal albergue in 2016. it was clean and neat. I remember 2 restaurants not to fr from the albergue. It is a fairly short walk into Santiago. I arrived in time for the Pilgrims' Mass.
In 2016 I stayed at the municipal albergue and walked around the manor house. i recall two restaurant/bars in walkable distance from the albergue. From Two it was a nice short walk to Santiago the next morning.
In my experience leaving the poles extended over time can make them difficult or near impossible to collapse when you need to. Long term extension also keeps the flexible connectors stretched and that may affect elasticity. My advice is to regularly collapse them to avoid these problems.
Another place I enjoyed twice was the Cafe Majestic. Very good food and friendly and helpful staff. I ate there before I started the Central Route and after two weeks, I was remembered when I ate there again.
I walked the San Salvador in 2019. I had the stages from Gronze for backup, but I found the route well marked. There were only a couple places I may have gotten off track, but I figured it out. As for your question on lightweight pants, I wore the quick dry hiking pants that I usually do when...
Glad to hear mask wearing is a priority. I walked the Salvador in 2019. It is a stunningly beautiful walk and quite remote in places. Stay safe and Buen Camino!
While on the Camino Portuguese and San Salvador I found that two main meals worked well for me. Cafe con leche first thing or as soon as possible, then a good breakfast a couple hours into the day's walk, usually 9:00 or 9:30 depending on towns on the way. I had some fruit in the early...
I walked the Central Route in 2016. As noted above there are very nice towns and cities along the way and the countryside is nice. A top spot for me was Ponte de Lima; I thought the town was beautiful, especially the approach to the city. Bob Caminho!
Candace,
Thank you for sharing your Caminho Portugues stories and pictures. I walked the same route (except for your Day 1) in 2016. Your images are bringing back wonderful memories and a longing to return to Portugal and Spain. I will continue to follow your blog. Many thanks!
Steve
