LIVE from the Camino CF-things are not that bad - May 2023

There's a graph on the APOTC FB group that says that numbers leaving SJPP are up 9% on 2019. I'll try to post a photo here. It's hardly a massive increase.

Water Quality on the French Route: Can You Drink from the Tap/Sink?

The water in Spain is perfectly safe to drink.

    Best App camino frances

A friend recommended an app she found. I haven't used it yet but it looks pretty good. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yellowarrowguides.cf.free

    Help...which app is best?

I used this one when I walked, found it excellent, it's been recently updated too http://caminoapp.net/ The Android version. Haven't tried the iPhone one.

Do top bunks stop bed bugs?

Do top bunks stop bedbugs? The stupid ones yes. But seriously, I can only echo what other people have already said, they're horrible but they won't harm you. Watch out crossing the road, that's the most dangerous thing you do on the Camino.

Gareth from Dublin on Camino yesterday.

Great photos! Wish I was there!

    Save the Las Herrerias horses.

So, a question: This is a Camino business. People are donating money to support it. Can other Camino businesses come on this forum asking for donations? I ask because there's a lot of them out there and they're all losing money and if one of them is allowed to do it why not all of them?

    Camino Must See

I completely agree. All the blablabla on social media creates a set of expectations before people even set off. It's especially unfair in the case of David (or any individual who's turned into a "Camino legend" by the guide books or people blabbing online) who's just doing his thing and people...

    Mochilla service campaign

I'd just like to add my voice to the people who think a luggage transportation service on the Via de la Plata would make the route less special. If you want convenience walk the Frances. A

    BIARRITZ TO SJPDP ??

Bus to the railway station and then the train to St Jean. Cheapest and nicest way to start the Camino. You'll probably make your first Camino friends before you even arrive in St Jean.

Free ebooks about the Camino. From guides to novels.

Strictly speaking not an ebook, more a free PDF, but useful anyway (click on the DOWNLOAD tab) http://www.caminoguide.net

Good day to start from SJPdP?

    Mid-week, any time of year.

    Easiest route at Winter

You could start the Via de la Plata from Sevilla. The weather is nearly always nice down there and most allergies are open year round.

    App for android

I used this, thought it was excellent. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caminoguide.frances

So which is the best guide to the CF right now?

I used Gerald Kelly's guide on my Camino. I found it excellent. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caminoguidefree.frances&hl=en

A pilgrim was attacked by a robber

This is very sad but I think it important to emphasize that these types of incidents are very rare and that you're probably safer on the Camino than you are in your home town (especially if you come from the US). Anabel

    CF in 26 days?

If I was you I would start in Pamplona or even Logrono. That would give you enough time to walk to Santiago without having to worry about having to hit a certain number of km every day. The itinerary you described strikes me as extremely optimistic for a person who isn't used to hiking...

    Best Apps for Camino Frances?

Hi John When I walked the Camino Frances last year I used the Camino de Santiago Guide. You can see it on Android here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caminoguide.frances&hl=en Another pilgrim had it on their iPhone so I know it's available for that too. I found it...
