No to Gortex ! Almost ended my first Camino, and not from rain but from sweat ! Horrible blisters. Have switched to breathable Hokas and 4 Camino’s-no blisters
I was a hospitalero there last year and will be there again in March 2024. Believe there are always volunteers there. But don’t serve dinner, just breakfast 🥖🥚🍊 And no fireplace
The albergue has been updated since 2011 … very nice place … and does supply sheets, pillowcases and towels. If you’re passing by in the first two weeks of March, stop and say Hi ! Will be hospitalero there for my second time !
Im heading back to Spain for my 3rd year of volunteering (5 different albergues and 3 this time) and i still speak virtually no spanish. Smiles, miming and google translate get me thru. Love my time as a hospitalero
I was a hospitalero in Grado in 2022 and enjoyed it … very nice albergue and Grado is a lovely town. There were two of us for the 2 week period, it was busy, but certainly not overwhelming. I become very proficient in cooking eggs, sunny side, over easy or however a pilgrim wanted 😃. Will be...
While I enjoy walking the various camino's ... being a hospitalero has become my real passion ! I've been lucky enough to spend time in various albergues over the past few years, and my only regret is I didn't start volunteering earlier ! Hard work, and worth every minute ! Pilgrim's from all...
I’ve used Orange for my last 4 camino’s…buy a SIM card at the Madrid airport with no set time limit (as I’m in Spain for a couple of months) just a set amount. No problems at all
have walked the Camino France, Portuguese central and coastal, Variant Espiritual and Ingles and will continue to walk while I can. But, I have found my true passion in serving as a hospitaler. 2024 will make it 8 sessions of serving and I have loved every one. Cooking, cleaning, laundry and …...
I was pleased to be able to serve as a hospitalero in Logrono, in September of 2019. Never worked harder or enjoyed time as much ! it was my first experience volunteering…in March 2024 I will be heading back to Spain to spend my time at 3 different albergue, making it 8 times. Serving...

I speak no Spanish, even after taking classes here in Canada, but have been a hospitalero at 5 different albergues … when all else fails, google translate! But a smile makes up for a lot, and I’m in awe of all the pilgrims that speak English
Just returned to Canada after spending time in Spain. While had plans to do two volunteer sessions, one at Ponferrada and one at Villadangoes I ended up spending an additional two weeks at the albergue in Astorga. and this may have been my favourite Camino of the 5 I’ve been lucky enough to...
I’m a no to waterproof shoes … almost ended my first Camino with blisters from sweaty feet . Change socks if they get wet, and stuffing my Hokas works fine in drying them overnight
The question is … can albergues charge if a bag is dropped off at their site, in addition to the transport cost. I’m familiar with shipping a backpack, but ran into this extra. (An other pilgrim and she was not expecting an extra charge)
