    Orisson & Borda

there is a small albergue at Kayola which is about a kilometre short of Orisson.. I stayed there the last time I walked the Francés. It is managed by Orisson, so you must walk up to Orisson to register and then walk back down.

    Morton’s Neuroma shoe choice

I too have suffered from Morton’s Neuroma. I did have surgery to remove the neuroma from my right foot, but was able to manage the pain in the left foot with Hoka shoes. I walked the Via Augusta and Via de la Plata in 2021 (almost 1300 km) in Hoka Stinson trail shoes. I wear a Dr Scholls 3/4...

Hoka Alternatives with Similar Padding and heel-to-toe Drop?

I also have foot problems (Morton's neuroma), and the only shoes that I can wear are Hokas. On my last camino, I wore Stinson ATR shoes and they lasted the entire 1300 km. They were totally thrashed by the time I got to Santiago, but were still wearable. We carried full packs (20+ lbs with...

The world is really a small place

In 2016 I was walking the Camino Frances and found a pink 'cooling' scarf on the ground not too far outside Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Every village we passed through, I flashed the scarf and asked if anyone had lost it, but no luck. We were on the long...and very hot...stretch going into...

    Viana

Depends on the day of the week. We spent a Sunday night there, and were treated to locals singing in the square after mass. It is one of the most memorable experiences on all my caminos.

    How long after hip replacement?

My husband had his hip replaced at the end of February 2016 and we walked the Francés in September.

All the single ladies, all the single ladies

There are so many people walking the Francés at any given time. You will be very safe. The only suggestion I would make is to find a small front facing pack that you wear under your main pack. This would be big enough to hold your passport, wallet, phone and any other valuables you may have...

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

I wore the Stinson ATR last year on my camino from Cadiz to Santiago.....almost 1300 kilometres. They were totally thrashed by the end, but got me through. They are my go to for all hiking. I have worn hiking boots for my first camino, and my feet were unhappy. My second, I switched between...

Storing Luggage at Barcelona Airport & Train from Barcelona to Pamplona

I have used the storage lockers at Barcelona Sants train station, but only for 1 week. Not sure if there is a time limit or not. I got all my information online, so you should be able to google it.

    VdlP from Cadiz

I walked this route last August. Weather very hot, no albergues that I was able to find....had to stay in airbnb and hotels the whole way. Trail was reasonably well marked except through cities. While I enjoyed the walking, the lack of amenities for pilgrims was an issue.

Looking for accommodation recommendations in Leon

I have stayed at the Hostel Urban Río Cea on two sepate occasions. The location is terrific, and the prices very reasonable. It is located just one block off the camino and the plaza where the old ayuntamiento is. They have private as well as bunk rooms in a beautiful old apartment that has...

Can you buy Hoka shoes in Salamanca?

My shoe of choice was the Hoka Stinson ATR as well. We walked in 2021 from Cadiz to Astorga, and then west on the Frances into Santiago. My shoes were past their prime by the time we reached Salamanca, but unfortunately we could find no stores that carried Hoka when we were there. We saw some...

    Barcelona

I have stayed in 2 different rooms on the 2 separate visits. Both were just fine.

    Barcelona

I have stayed at an airbnb in Barcelona on two separate pre-caminos. It is a very basic room situated just a block off Las Ramblas and just south of Plaza Catalunya. It is the perfect spot for seeing the sites of the City. It is within a 1/2 hour walk of la Sagrada Familia. We also walked up...

Trail Runner Brands That Work for wide feet

The Hoka Stinson ATR runs wider than other Hoka models, and does come in wide width... I wore these this past summer/fall on the Via Augusta and Via de la Plata. They stood up very well and carried me almost 1300 km. I really should have taken a second pair with me though as they were...

My Experience Walking the Via De La Plata during Covid-19

I walked from Cadiz with a friend starting in mid August. Our experiences were much the same as yours. Between Cadiz and Astorga, we did not see 15 other pilgrims. Luckily, there were 4 wonderful people that we walked with for part of the time. The amenities along the trail were almost...

Sleeping Bags on the Coastal route

Weight always being an issue, I only brought a silk liner. If it was cold, I slept with my light fleece and leggings
