    Poles

I love Pacer Poles also but didn't want to put them in barrels at the end of the day for several reasons so I got Black Diamond Z poles because they fit inside my pack.

Did you take the wrong Poles this morning?

My 120 cm Black Diamond Z poles fit in my pack with all my gear.

    Catalonia trouble

I am in Barcelona right now and things are relatively calm although many businesses are closed. Many Catalonian flags hanging in windows. We did see a large demonstration against Catalonian independence but it was mostly peaceful. The police presence is obvious and some of them have automatic...

    Modified Money Belt

The clip on my REI waist money belt failed in Fort Lauderdale, but my friend Sammi's Spanish mother made this modification on her sewing machine. Leaving for Barcelona and the El Camino in 2 days just in time for the Catalonian independence vote termoil.

    Water bottle or Hydration Pack?

I used hydration packs for a couple of years but went back to bottles because the water from bladders tasted plasticky to me. I cleaned the bladders constantly but still got that taste and couldn't tolerate it any more. Water from bottles doesn't taste that way to me.

    Time for change

I know what you mean, it seems like that mass is more for entertainment value than anything else. I don't know if I would wait two hours to see a gigantic swinging incense burner even though I am a devout Catholic. I don't go to mass to be entertained,

Blondie, Angel Eyes And Tuco (Sad Hill)

Thank Rick, I appreciate the links. I leave for my El Camino adventure in two days, very busy with last minute arrangements now. My hiking buddy Sammi and I are both still in favor of visiting the "Sad Hill" site. If we do I will take pictures and post them to the forum. Thanks for the information.

    Sacramento pilgrims.com

Just wanted to mention that there is an El Camino website based in my home town of Sacramento California that caters to pilgrims from Sacramento specifically and California in general. There is also a lot of useful information that would be valuable to any pilgrim no matter where they are from...

    Shoes in mid-October

I find that waterproof shoes only work well for me on day hikes or in colder weather. In moderate or above temps of more than one day my feet get wet anyway either from sweat or water leakage and then the shoe is hard to dry. Many super hikers like Andrew Skurka and Ryan Jordan agree with me on...

Good deal sailor. we will definitely look for you. We are planning to do 15 miles a day because that's what we do here in the mountains of northern CA, but whether we can do that day after day on the CF-- who knows? We are flying to Barcelona to visit Sammi's Aunt Riemi for a few days and then...

Blondie, Angel Eyes And Tuco (Sad Hill)

Thanks mspath, liked the Guardian article, especially the location map. Apparently the reconstructed Sad Hill cemetary is near Burgos about 30 kilometers from the El Camino. Luckily my hiking buddy grew up in Spain and speaks Spanish. Maybe he can negotiate for a taxi to the site. If we go I...

Blondie, Angel Eyes And Tuco (Sad Hill)

Of course I am referring to the film "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" which was filmed in Spain. I am particularly interested in the "Sad Hill Cemetary " near Burgos which was constructed by Spanish soldiers for the climactic scene of the film. Has anyone made a side trip there, is it worth it...

Hi Sailor, nice to hear from you again. I was incommunicado for a while due to circumstances beyond my control, but I am back now. Are you on the Camino now?

    Starting Oct. 2

Hi all, finally starting from St. Jean for the CF Oct 2. Hoping for at least 500 miles maybe more if we go to Finisterre. Going with my best friend Sammi who grew up in Madrid and still has relatives in Spain. Our original flights were cancelled due to hurricane Irma so we had to re-schedule...
