Hi there. I have a brand new Altus Atmospheric poncho in green size large/extra large which I bought for a third Camino Frances which did not happen. Anyone want it?
My advice is to travel as light as possible. I have walked the Camino Francise twice first time. I carried a backpack weighing about 8 1/2 kg. The next time I had my rucksack stolen at a Madrid railway station 10 minutes before I was due to board the train for Leon, fortunately I had a waste bag...
One suggestion is to wear the shorts you describe and buy a pair of Lycra cycling pull ups. They are tight and go from just above the knee a bit below half way down the calf. They have a tacky band to hold them up on your bare skin. I Wear them with cycling shorts in the winter and you can...
Can I just say that I used to take great care about my packing list and caries around 10 kilos. A few years ago I flew into Madrid and was catching a train to Burgos to continue my journey to Santiago. Unfortunately my back was stolen at the station! With 10 minutes to go I had to decide to get...
Hi Debra. What a wonderful idea.
I would agree Burgos is a good start point. Walking the Mesita is relatively easy and there is great accommodation.
If you decide not to stay over in London, it may be worth flying from San Francisco to London Gatwick Airport. You can then get cheap flights...
Michael Thank you for the picture. I walked the stretch between Burgos and Leon in May 2017 and remember the spot very vividly. I took several photos of the poppies looking toward the hut or little house.
It brings warm memories flooding back.

I was walking the Camino Frances between Burgos and Leon as my second stage of my plan to complete the Caamino Frances and met up with 3 wonderful South Africans and 2 Americans and we walked together the whole week.
They were walking all the way from St Jean to Santiago, i was just doing a...
Thank you all for your encouraging responses. Just a quick update to let you know all is well.
Got all the basic gear I needed and stuck to my plan. My pack is no more than 5 kilos. Just shows you don't need half the stuff I've been collecting for 6 months!
The Camino really does provide...
I need some urgent help. Just starting out to walk Camino Frances from Burgos to Leon. At Madrid Charmatin station catching train to Burgos and had my rucksack stolen with all my gear. Fortunately they did not take credit cards passport or tickets. But they did get my Credential. I'm on train...
I use Ibuprofen for leg pain and swelling. Having broken my left ankle last year the tendons are very tight and swell up and stiffen. The other great piece of advice is to take ephavescant Calcium and Postassium tablets with Vitamin C each evening. Available in Spanish pharmacies. Started...
As an owner of 3 Paramo jackets and walker on the Camino Frances I would highly recommend them over Goretex. They keep you dry from the outside and the inside. The rainproofing is easy and cheap to maintain.
Some of them are heavy but they also do lighter jackets such as the Quito. I would...
Very good advice. Glad to hear the 1kg sleeping bag is overkill. So will take 600gm summer weight bag and rely on clothing (socks, tights hat) and blankets for any additional warmth.

I am walking the Camino Frances in stages. I walked from Pamplona to Burgos in early June and was planning to walk from Burgos to Leon in September but family commitments intervened.
So now I plan to walk starting in Burgos on November 8th and do 8 days to Leon. I would very much appreciate...
Hi There. Just started reading your thread form the beginning to latest post. Very good feel to your posts. I am walking the Camino Frances in stages. I walked from Pamplona to Burgos in early June and was planning to walk from Burgos to Leon in September but family commitments intervened.
So...
To quote Henry Ford "if you thing you can do it or you think you can't do it you are probably right" in other words it's all in the mind. The only question is how you adapt your personal circumstances ( e.g. age injury etc. etc. to the physical task.
Here is my sure fire way to avoid ALL blisters.
1. Boots 1 size bigger than normal shoe size
2. Wear boits in well
3. Apply Glide to feet every day
4. Make sure tie nails short
5. Wear thin Bridgedale liner socks
6. Smart wool over socks
7 Take boots of during lunch breaks
If yiu...
Mike I should have added that I know that following my injury I will never be the same again. A complete recovery will not happen! However I have come to accept this and to work with it. Once I accepted this everything seemed brighter and more positive. Any improvement was a thing to celebrate...
Hi Mike
I would strongly encourage you to hold on to your dream. My own experience is similar in some ways. I had discovered the camino about 7 years ago in a Spanish magazine and had long harboured an ambition to do the walk. It was eventually planned for 2016 when my youngest son would finish...
