The small restaurants in the side streets of Viana do Castelo are fantastic Most of the restaurants in the main square in Caminha are good In Santiago de Compostela, the Parador's set menu lunch for Euro 20 was really good. In Porto, if you want top notch, try O Paparico

    CP Rest Day?

Tomar's Templar monastery is worth a day off (we did a guided tour which took about two hours). Coimbra's 800 year old university and surrounds again is worth the time to wonder around. Advise to the beginner

I would suggest you make sure you have the right equipment first and walk your shoes in. The Coastal version is nice and flat compared to the central version or Camino Frances. So you may find this the best to start with.

If You Only Had Time To Spend In One City: Porto vs. Lisbon

Having done both ourselves, and we are doing the Coastal route starting 3 June 2020 from Portowhen we are doing 3 nights in Porto, I would suggest Porto this time. Lisbon and its surrounds are fantastic in mid-September and late May. So maybe next time.

Walking with daughter and niece both 15. Too young????

We did the Sarria to Santiago walk with our twins in April/May 2014 when they were nearly 15 years old. They managed very well and then did the full Camino Frances from St Jean with us in June/July 2017. Regular snacks like dried fruit, nuts and muesli bars were useful.
