We walked From Porto , mostly on the Senda Litoral route (beautiful) in September 2018. We walked the Spiritual Variant, taking the boat and received our Compostelas. I am away from home for the next 6 weeks however once I return I will look at my passport and let you know when we started to...
Hello... even though we did not stay in the monastery, my husband and I did attend a pilgrim’s blessing in one of the small chapel rooms in the monastery. It was so beautiful! The nuns sang for half hour or so, the priest ended with an emotional prayer, said in the languages of all of us...
We walked the Senda Litoral out of Porto in September followed the coast up into Spain and then walked the Spiritual Variant ( amazing!) into Santiago. It was a wonderful walk!
Hola! We are walking the Portuguese Camino now and plan to start the Spiritual Variant tomorrow. I am having trouble getting answers to any phone calls at the alberguen Armenteira. Does anyone know how crowded it might currently be on the SV? Muchas gracias... in any case, I trust the Camino !
Evidently there is a transport service called TuiTrans that transports bags on the Portuguese Camino... Look at their website, they have it in English as well, and give them a call.
Thank for all the input because I have similar questions, although no time constraint. We leave Sept 10 from Porto and plan to stay on the Senda but cross to the Coastal a bit and also walk the Spiritual Variant. Any suggestions if we want a day of rest for a great place to stay an extra day...
We walked VDLP 9/16... I was vegan and had to start eating eggs and some cheese or I would not have eaten much. Having said that, occasionally I had fantastic vegetarian meals. Many of the towns are so tiny.... I also ate lots of nuts! We took a dehydrated peanut butter called PB 8 ( I think...
My husband and I started from Merida in Sept 2016. We loved every step of the Way! I had to end in Salamanca with 2 broken bones in my foot. My husband took a bus to Ourense ,then walked to Santiago .I stayed in Salamanca a few days then took a bus to Santiago to meet him and hobble the last...
You can buy a passport and have it mailed to your house before you leave. Ivar sells them at the Camino Forum store, or Confraternity of St James or American Pilgrims on the Camino, or one of the many other Pilgrim associations. Then you know you will have it with you. One less worry.
Hola! My husband and I are also planning to do coastal route starting maybe mid Sept . I agree! We just received our book and it looks great... just in time for us! Buen camino!
I second MikeJS! We actually started our VDLP in Merida...we followed the arrows with no problems! We used the Wise Pilgrim app frequently and also SYates guide found somewhere in the camino forum. We found the VDLP to be fairly well marked! It is such a beautiful path. Enjoy!!
We also bought our bus tickets to Porto in the office immediately next to where you get your compostela in Santiago. Very easy and convenient. We purchased them the day before and then we knew we had seats etc!
I also concur with Merida to Salamanca ! or getting to Merida then taking a bus a few days ahead and heading to Salamanca. We walked part of the VDLP this Sept/Oct and the two weeks we walked starting in Merida to Salamanca were magical! I then broke a bone in my foot but my husband took bus to...
Yes, we carried an extra set of tips just in case , my husband walked much longer that I did and he did not use his tips much... I preferred walking with tips... I'm glad we had extras because once my tip got caught and fell in s grate!
We used Pacerpoles on our VDLP Camino this past September... and we loved them...me espbecause they helped with my bad knees... I know this may sound weird but I often integrated the motion & sound of moving each pole in with a walking meditation! I loved the ergonomic handle and the fact that...
